  • Yucky paint job!

OK, at *supermarket* there's going to be a refit starting 12th July; before that tho, they're getting the painters in. Most of the rooms in the staff area have been painted a casual offwhite; looking good. However, the locker rooms have both been painted this vile bluey green (check attachment for exact shade), even to the skylight walls which were white before to reflect light back into the room. Now, you walk in and it's like walking into a fishtank as the light reflected back is now blue. Honestly, it's disgusting and everyone hates it.

Click attachment for the full horror of bluey greenness.

I actually really like that color, but an entire room of it is a bit much.

My old bedroom at my mom's house is a bit fish-tanky for some people - it had the old popcorn ceiling (smoothed down) that actually curves down into one of the walls and a short bump-in on another wall. So the two short walls (the main curve-down and the bump-in) and the ceiling are all this light aqua - more green than your sample - and the other two are wallpaper that is white with aqua and purple splatters on them. I love it, it was and is very "me" but it can be a bit much for people, I know!

That color looks good on cars from the fifties and that's about it.

Sofar, I agree with you on that. Also it looks good on some motorcycles.

Ick. A little bit of that color goes a long way.

The color might look good on like one wall (opposite of the locker maybe) and thats all...
if you did that though a nice shade of grey would be good for the rest...

We have houses painted in that color here, but then again, people love the tropical pastels...

Good for accents in a room, but it would kill my eyes in less than a second to have it cover a whole room.

If they used color psycology the the reason is because: Blue was believed to soothe illnesses and treat pain.

or as mentioned on several sites (I'm paraphrasing here)

Blue tends to bring down blood pressure and slows respiration and heart rate. That’s why it’s considered calming and relaxing, and is often recommended for bedrooms and bathrooms.

Be careful, however: A pastel blue can come across as unpleasantly chilly when it’s on the walls and furnishings, especially in a room that receives little natural light. If you opt for a light blue as the primary color in a room, balance it with warm colors in the furnishings and fabrics.

To encourage relaxation in rooms where people gather family rooms, living rooms, large kitchens (locker rooms?) try warmer blues, such as periwinkle, or bright blues, such as cerulean
or turquoise. Blue is known to have a calming/peacefull effect when used as the main color of a room. When going with blue go for softer shades of blue. Darker blues has the opposite effect. Dark blue evokes feels of sadness. So refrain from using darker blues in your main color scheme. Stay with the lighter shades of blue to give you and your loved ones a calm effect.

Yikes. That looks to be a Cyan shade, there, and it's just way too much for a room.

                      Makes a nice t-shirt color.

On the subject of blues being calming, my color scheme on my computer is all blues with a dark magenta counterpoint color. It's really a mellow setup.

Well, the powers that be finally listened to all of our complaints; and repainted the locker room in "white with a hint of grey". Still better than the turquoise, tho. XD

That sounds a bit less killer on the eyes, at least.
