  • I just wanna say: I love my job.

I don't think this gets said enough by people who have found themselves in non-crappy jobs.

    I love my job.

Now, the job I do in and of itself isn't special. It's office work, a touch of IT, a little accounting... basically I produce all the cheques that go out in a day, and manage the whole process. Doesn't sound like a job in and of itself, but when a company does over 1,000 cheques in a day...

Anyway, that's not why I love it. I love it because it's such a GREAT place to work. I've worked in crappy places. I've worked in big megacorps in plants where corporate is doing a big witchhunt and everyone is trying to shove the blame on someone else before they get hit with the downsizing stick. I've worked in call centers, where I can confirm every single one of Kara_CS's and Gravekeeper's stories are true, because I've gotten calls just like them. I have worked at a job where I didn't know what they wanted me to do, they didn't know what they wanted me to do, they got mad at me for asking, and finally let me go for job nonperformance.

This place isn't like that. EVERYONE smiles. EVERYONE. Even the grumpy people. Not that forced corporate-mandated smile either. The company is big enough to be secure, have nice things, professional office, etc but still small enough that the owners know everyone by name. They have big Christmas parties, backyard barbecues, catered lunches. My boss is the nicest, most nonthreatening person I've ever met (And for someone like me, with a deeply ingrained fear of authority figures, that's a godsend). Her most recent request to me was to visit her and the rest of the department more often (They're one floor up from where I am printing cheques) because they miss me. It's the kind of place people retire from, and them come back to visit. Ladies go on maternity leave, and then drop by whenever we have a catered lunch to show off the new babies.

It's a happy, positive workplace, and I am dearly lucky to have found it. And I just thought I'd like to say that now. Especially as a reminder to myself.

Polenicus, let me be the first to say: that rocks, and congratulations. As one of the foremost I-hate-my-job whiners around, I must agree with you...it doesn't get said enough.

    Now...are you hiring?

          Heh.

I'll chime in on the "I love my job" line.

The work I do is fairly easy, but with enough challenges to keep me interested. The work-place is about as casual as you can get; we can swear in the front office, we can play music as long as it isn't too loud, we can play on the Internet while on break/at lunch as long as we don't download anything, we can wear jeans and t-shirts or whatever as long as it is clean and not ratty-looking (and if you want an extra $20, wear a t-shirt for some cigarette company and the boss will pay you so he can throw it out), the benefits are decent for a small place, and the people are mostly cool.

I've been here for 13 years, and I expect I'll be here for as long as it's still running and I need the work.

I liked my first job, despite SCs. I liked the pressure of having to run around on a timeline, I liked the bustle, the large crowds. I liked learning to run the projectors. I liked the whole job. I was there from May 2002 to the first week of January 2006. I'd probably still be there if I'd not moved across town, making a commute impossible after closing.

I like the job I have now. Good pay, night shift, so not many people to deal with. The odd massive amount of filing or other random job to deal with. A nice work shirt that we have to wear. Get to play on the internet and do whatever barring downloading programs. I've only been at it a month and a half, but I'm fairly certain I'm going to stay past my summer term of employment.

I absolutely loved working at Chesterfield, in part because of my coworkers, in part because the constant ability to show off my product knowledge... the SCs didn't help, but they didn't really hurt the job too much. I mostly just stored the stories and tossed the anger into random artsy type stuff... writing, drawing... 3D models, whatever. Now, though, I'm stuck in a festering wound that is trying desperately to tell me "This isn't a retail job, everyone who calls in is going to be a coworker."

However, we suddenly have this bizarre, ass-kissy script for answering the phones, and it is fucking MANDATORY I found out the other day. My life is slowly becoming retail again, and it's making me gain weight. I hate it.
              "I call murder on that!"

                I love my job too

The people I work with are wonderful, and my boss is great about giving me challenges and opportunities. It's a supportive place, there's free food every shift (and booze after work if I want it).

I have hired a fantastic, intelligent team and every one gets along.

This is the kind of place people bring their babies to show off after maternity leave too. In fact, someone came in a couple days ago.

It makes the 60-70 hour weeks workable

Normally, I would be quite happy to spend several paragraphs explaining how and why I love my job. But I'm in a really bad mood at the moment so I shall leave it at:

                  I love my job

                  Pie is manly.
Eggs, meat, and cheese are manly.
Therefore, making an egg, meat, and cheese pie must be very manly.

I both love and dislike my job. However, the cons have won over the pros and I am looking for a new job. Please tell me your company is hireing in Connecticut.
I have PMS and a black belt. Any questions?

I wouldn't go as far as saying I love my job...

But I did like it at first...

Though as the time goes on, seems like more and more cons get added to the list... and nothing is done to get those resolved, so I'm actively looking to work elsewhere now, heh.

Here's hoping I get an answer from somewhere soon!
