My first real job I showed up in a suit. Had the job before I opened my mouth, just on that.

Yeah, it does seem to have a big effect when you show up in an actual suit.

If it weren't for the fact that I hope to retire from the job I'm going into, and the fact that I plan on losing about 100 pounds over the next two years or so, I'd go grab a snazzy 3-piece.

        I miss wearing suits...

        *sigh*

        I looked GOOD!

          Job seekers

What amazed me when I was in Human Resources was how many people looked like they just stepped out of bed and put on whatever was lying on the floor.

I know some people can't afford nicer clothes but at least make what you have presentable. Ironed for one. Clean for another.

And don't wear daisy dukes and a halter top to a store to apply for a job.

I always noted on the file how an applicant dressed for an interview. More than once if 2 candidates were pretty equal otherwise the person who came in hair combed. washed up in clean, ironed clothes got it over the one who came in looking like they just got out of bed or like they were working as a prostitute to make ends meet.

If you're in Australia, I'd say they're just dole bludgers trying to fill the space in their job seeker diaries so they keep getting their handouts.

I went for an interview recently for a teaching job in Japan - I was one of three women who applied, and the other two looked like they were out for a day's shopping. I was the only one who turned up looking halfway serious. Admittedly, my jacket was two sizes too big, but hey, it USED to fit. It just drives me insane, especially when they get the job and I don't.
