Although it's coming in baby steps.
Backstory: I work at a store that was once a Foleys now it's, well, you know. I'm lucky I've worked at them before, my last job before moving from San Diego. So I kinda know what I'm talking about when I talk about policy, standards, etc. I'm not saying it was perfect, but the cast majority of issues we had had to do with recovery. But event those were minor compared to this store I work at to day.
I would gladly welcome the organized chaos of the store back home, in place of the pure insanity of this store.
The store stores May Co. and Macys operated entirely different. Apples and oranges. Trying to turn one into the other is the most difficult of alchemy. Esspecilly when the subjects are unwilling and just don't want to change.
I almost quit several times the first 6 months. Lazy cow-orkers. Difficult managment. The person that was made MTM was not doing that, instead passed it off onto sales managers and sales floor staff. WRONG! In about December both she and the then store manager quit. YAY!
Enter new MTM, who started working there just after I did and got Macys training.
After a miserable inventory I transfer to the merchandising team. Yay me. I'm given mens. (average truck being about 10 hours. but that's for like two people who know what they're doing. For one person it's like 20) I start my campagin to use different colored pens for markdowns (like back home), amognt other things. Oh, I forgot. There is no actual markdown team at my store. Just signers and merchandising.
Fast forward. The other day my manager takes me to a Young Mens seminar, for back to school. It was pretty fun. Afterwards we walk around the two Macys. A Fo-Macys and a Macys-Macys. I show her the markdown system at that Macys. Three pens. Three colors. Three levels of markdowns. Not clearence till it hits 50% type of thing.I convince her. Yay! We also find a couple other cool things we like and would like try and do. Some of it'd I'd probably do anyway, just to make my floor a little more eye pleaseing.
So, we get back. Yesterday she goes and talks to store manager who is ok with some of the things. Most important to me she ok's using the different colored pens. Yay!But that means I'll have to sort all of mens clearence next week by myself. And do truck. And do markdowns.
Ok, a small thing. But baby steps. Babys steps.
Working...
