  • I got a raise? I think?

Since coming back from my summer trip, I've had an irregular schedule at work. One day, three days, not a full shift, what have you. This past week, I was scheduled for three days but took another shift when a coworker asked me. So I was two hours shy of my usual number of hours from last year. No biggie. (A side note: I was getting paid $7.50 an hour. This was starting to wear on me, especially after finding out that a much more recent hire was making $9.)

So I take a look at my check, see how much I got. And it's over $50 more than usual. The checks are handwritten, with the Gross$ and various taxes/Social Security listed in the corner, so I take a second to work up how many hours I'd worked and divide that into the Gross. Easy enough, since I'd worked 30 hours and got $300 that week before taxes. I got a $2.50 raise? I'm a little stumped.

    Sweet, though.

I hate that. You get hired by a company, for a certain pay. Then the newer hire, gets paid more then you by the hour, and you work the same amount of hours. That crap pisses me off

Hmmm. You want to ask to confirm your suspicion, but you don't want to ask in case they made a mistake and want the money back. Paradoxes suck.
