I love having a red Swingline on my desk . .not to mention it's the best stapler I've ever used. People that get the joke usually just start laughing spontaneously when they are sitting there and I reach for it.

Those that comment on it, but don't get the joke, I just tell them I got a red one so I don't lose it.

BTW, if anyone wants one, I got it from the Office Depot catalog a few years ago. Same price as the boring colors.

Milton Waddams: [talking on the phone] And I said, I don't care if they lay me off either, because I told, I told Bill that if they move my desk one more time, then, then I'm, I'm quitting, I'm going to quit. And, and I told Don too, because they've moved my desk four times already this year, and I used to be over by the window, and I could see the squirrels, and they were married, but then, they switched from the Swingline to the Boston stapler, but I kept my Swingline stapler because it didn't bind up as much, and I kept the staples for the Swingline stapler and it's not okay because if they take my stapler then I'll set the building on fire...

            Ok...I'm really lost.

Anyone care to explain the significance of a RED swingline stapler vs. say...a black one?

            Thanks

It's from the movie Office Space, which should be required viewing for CS. One of the characters had a Red swingline on his desk.

As said, it's from the movie 'Office Space'. So, now that you know and you've admitted that you haven't seen it, either go rent it out or Rap will ban you.

My wife tries to joke Office Space with some of us, including her friends "That's my stapler" she likes to shout out. When I showed her this, her response was "Why did they get you a stapler?".

We have an ongoing joke in the store, we had some "consultants" come in and interview. One of the sales reps, when he sat down for the interview, said "oh, hi Bob, Bob" and they were forever referred to as the Bobs. None of them had ever seen the movie until one night the young guy rented it and they all watched it in his hotel room.

I don't know if they were offended or not.

Office Space is pretty much required viewing at my job as well. One of my coworkers suggested I go rent it after she found me yelling at our ancient printer that kept jamming, and that I'd know why when I got to a certain scene.

I rented it, liked it enough to buy it, and loaned it out to several coworkers. Even now, my supervisor and I will talk or email in the style of the movie.

Me: Yeah... I've finished my assignment, so if you could go ahead and find something else for me to work on, that would be great...

Then she made some joke about needing me to come in one Monday, so I tossed out the line of "setting the building on fire." I made sure to say it to her in person, rather than email it to her. Last thing I need is for someone who doesn't know the movie to intercept it and have me arrested.

my mom gave me her vintage red swingline like this one-she's had it since she worked a a State secretary in the mid 60's-I actually keep it locked in my desk at night-but it is great!
Honestly.... the image of that in my head made me go "AWESOME!"..... and then I remembered I am terribly strange.-Red dazes

I've actually reenacted that scene a few times. Trust me, there's nothing better than it, especially if you've worked on fixing crap all day As for the red stapler, there's an office supply place that has them...and I'm soooo getting one
