My boss asked me if I want a new nametag, that has my new title on it.

I said yes, but then I did a lot of thinking.

None of my coworkers seem at all happy with my promotion, so I don't want to shove it in thier faces. But, I EARNED the promotion.

I wouldn't wear it as my main tag, since I have two others, but I would wear it occasionally.

    Any suggestions?

Go for it. Like you said, you earned it...and isn't that what you were hired for??

      Exactly.

If they are unhappy with your promotion, then that's their problem.

You earned it, and you should be proud of that.

Maybe it's time they looked at why you got a promotion and they didn't.
Too tired of living and too tired to end it. What a conundrum.

Becks is correct in saying that I WAS hired with the intent of being AM.

I was under the impression that my coworkers knew that, especially since I mentioned that I was AM at my other stores, which is why I knew the solutions to some problems.

        Oh well.

Seriously, ALL of my coworkers except the AM that was and the manager that is leaving, have all been late for their shifts, and occasionally even absent with the flimsiest of excuses (some of which I've mentioned on the site from time to time).

Wear your regular name tag, but keep your AM one with you. Might come in handy for different situations.

            I agree with Ree.

I see no reason to downplay yourself so other people don't "have their self esteem damaged." That whole mindset is destroying our society, and no I don't feel like a hysterical doomsayer when I make that statement.

And I agree with you, RK. People need to suck it up and deal with the fact that some people are better than others.

There are dozens of cookie-cutter sheeple for every actual Person on this planet, and even among real, thinking, self-aware People very, very few are actually "Special" or "Unique" in any way that actually makes a bloody bit of difference in the grand scheme of things.

I think it's less that and more the fact that nobody can give anyone else self-esteem. That's why it's called SELF-esteem. It's what you think of yourself.

Think for a moment. If, in order for someone to have a positive self image, other people have to downplay themselves, it means that the person who's self image is at stake is being competitive. They're comparing themself with other people— or, as some sociologists would put it, "looking outside themselves for validation".

Which doesn't work. If you want to feel good about yourself, it has to come from inside you. You determine what criteria you feel make an important person, and you have to work to meet those criteria. Having people praise you or what you've done is nice— but it's not going to do anything for you. You can get a strong sense of accomplishment if you meet goals you set for yourself*, even if nobody else notices. And at the other extreme, it can be downright irritating when people gush over something you've done, but you didn't do it as good as you wanted to.

                * Whether they were goals you actively set for yourself or were just vague "I wanna be good at this" type things. One of the key elements of being satisfied with yourself is being able to set goals that are challenging enough that you have to work to get to them, but easy enough that eventually you will get to them.

Plus, you'll need it when an SC hysterically demands a manager.

Wear your name tag with your position on it. You did earn it and have zero reason to not wear it.
If they are unhappy about it and want promotions themselves they need to step it up and do what needs to be done to get there. I just hope they don't give you too much grief over it and if they do I hope you're prepared to give out any deserved write-ups.

Also remember that it's common for there to be some employee turn over when there is a major change in management. If some of them leave it IS NOT your fault. Period. Don't let them convince you it is.

I actually told her that when I talked to her the other day.
