  • I got a part time job at Petcetera...

So I just got hired for a part time job at Petcetera. It pays 25cents more than what I am getting at at Sears (AFTER one raise, also found out another girl was hired at 25c more than I was after said raise too, but she was hired by the new supervisor). There are benefits and a discount, though the new manager (who has experience but is new to the store) doesnt have information on it yet.

She seemed to very much like me, and I noticed THIS written on my resume:A very Sweet Girl!

She also said my resume looks a lot like hers - a lot of experience. Quite impressed. we exchanged pet stories.

So I'm going into the LIvestock now as an associate. I can print out pamplets and she approves of me educating customers on proper pet care.

She even made mention of supervisor/managerial positions possibly in the future, including ASM (which would mean I'd have to go full time no doubt), but they also pay more.

So now I have to think, every day, if I want to possibly go up the ladder (at last) at petcetera if it works out, or stay at Sears. I like working at sears, and my guilt complex wants me to stay because my Supervisor really needs me. I guess we'll see...

    I start Saturday.

You have to do what's best for you. Besides, Sears is not doing well. There's no telling what could happen to them in the not distant future. I stayed with one employer who was in better shape, then they suddenly closed. We're fighting for WARN, but we're having a hard time (four and a half years later and it's still dragging on).

If Petcetera offers full time, take it.

Yeah, but I'm getting close to being eligible for benefits at Sears at least, and that means I can finally get the Root Canal I've been needing since July (and my other teeth fixed, and eyeglasses)... That and I dont like having just one job to depend on till I /know/ I will keep it. So I will stay at Sears for now, and then see.

I was also told that in Alberta, you can let someone go within ONE YEAR of hiring them without giving a reason. I was always under the impressoin it was three months. Something about federal/provincial laws...

I've never heard of that rule, and I've worked in Alberta my whole life--as far as I know, it's always been three months, just like everywhere else.

Definitely, don't stay at Sears just because you feel that they need you. The question you need to consider is, do you need them? Do what's best for you, and if that means both for a while, so be it. If one seems to be going in a better direction than the other, then you can take that path when you get there... If Petcetera offers you full time/benefits, could you go to part time at Sears?

Whatever you decide to do, Good Luck!!

well, right now I need sears - for at least another three months, to see if Petcetera will keep me. If so, I may start to shift over.

Technically, all associates at Sears are part time save certain people - we only work 37.5 hours in a week on average, so we're just shy of the 40 needed for true full time, although we do get benefits. Kind of lame, IMHO, but eh.

I do want to get my teeth fixed, etc... before I quit Sears, if I do.

Well, under privacy laws, I just dial you and hand you over to the customer, Gravekeeper. But I do speak to the associates on the phone on occasion. Cool

If its till maintenance, then it wont' be the customer, ever, I promise

I know apparently one of our ASMs was told to 'reformat all the computers' on one level of the store. O.o

And my former Lead was told to turn the printer off (actually our photocopier, which is also a printer. ) so the guy could fix it. Upon turning it back on, it started to print ALL JOBS from the past two weeks it never printed.

Me, personally, I've only ever spoken to Tech Support once a few months ago. Its usually the managers who get to call you.

Ps - early morning for which time zone?
