  • Vendor turnovers . . .and some general musings

Been an interesting week last week with the vendors . . .

We've lost a snack guy (he sold his route back and is going into business for himself doing landscaping and lawn care.) He had enough of the hours apparently.

And, I won't be seeing Darwin anymore . . . he's sold his bread route and will be taking over a cookie route (Voortman's cookies) We don't carry this line of product, so he'll basically be working at WM stores in the area.

And our Murray cookie rep has sold his route to the Tree . . . the Tee has acquired Murray and Famous Amos lines some time back, but up until now have distributed them via area distributors. Starting in January, the Tree will be carrying these products on their trucks (which means more products for my b/f and his other coworkers to have to contend with.)

And Hulk (who hangs out with Darwin quite a bit) has sold his bread route as of last month . . . he wasn't sure what he was going to do, but he was getting tired of working 6 sometimes 7 days a week himself (same as Darwin.) He was thinking about working for one of the other bread companies, but he hadn't decided yet.

And we've got a new Frito-Lay guy . . . we lost our little Chuckie, who got fed up with the supervisor and quit last summer. He's now working at the Tree either in the warehouse or filling in on routes (he has a CDL, as well as sales experience and supervisor experience.) They're still having trouble at the Tree, though. Another driver got fired last week (according to my b/f) for a DWI . . . leaving them more shorthanded on drivers and everyone's working their butts off.

And now one of the wine companies has been purchased by the local Budweiser distributor . . . the driver was telling us today that they've finalized the purchase last week and today they're all supposed to find out if they'll still have jobs.

And Grandpa Grump is back on the Merita bread route - he was out for several months for more shoulder surgery. He came back last month and is still a grump.

But we still have Greggie to contend with . . . I swear, if he doesn't start picking up his credits, he's going to find them shoved where the sun doesn't shine.

Some things don't change either. We still have Brad, our hapless Coke rig driver, who still whines "You're killing me" at least a dozen times every time he makes a drop, especially if he has to go outside to load up the empty pallets to take back on his truck. I think he forgot to tell his body he was dead.

Speaking of which, we'll probably be hearing his whine tomorrow . . . we'll just make sure he has plenty of cheese to go with it.
