  • Cart Dented Customer's Car

Yesterday, a customer was very upset because a cart ran into her car and dented it. She wanted to know who was responsible for the cart situation. I went outside with her to see what I could do and I ended up offering to get the manager. I went inside, called the manager, and requested for him to meet the customer outside and I headed for the outside.

The customer wanted to know where the manager was and I informed her that I had called him and he was on his way. The manager showed up pretty quickly. Before he showed up, the customer said that she was never going to shop at the store again. She even said that she was very upset which she said to both the manager and I and the manager ended up getting the information needed from her.

This particular customer is a regular customer. She's usually pretty nice so I'm hoping she didn't mean it when she said she would never shop at the store again.

Personally, if she gets that upset about a dent that (perhaps) could have been weather related, or the fault of another customer, or even, yes, an employee's fault...

Well, then, I don't know if I'd want a customer like that to come back.

    Dents happen.

That was like this one time when I was working at Walmart. I ofcourse was pushing carts. A cart had dented a customers cart. And he blames it on me. I mean WTF, I had just came on and got treated it like that. he was shown the footage from the camera on that side. He still blamed it on me

At the grocery store I used to work at and at most of the larger parking lots for Wally World, Lowes, Best Buy, etc., they have signs that basically say that you park at your own risk, that the store is not responsible for any damage to parked vehicles irregardless of how the damage occurred. This came into play once at the store I worked when a man came in to report that his car had been hit while he was parked. The store pointed out the signs that are posted on all sides of the lot, on all light poles and on the cart return corrals. The guy sued and lost.

She'd have a case, so to speak, if someone had deliberately shoved a cart at her car and someone saw. But then it wouldn't be the store's problem, it'd be between her and someone else. Stores aren't responsible for things like that. When stuff like that happens, you go after the person who hit your car, not the store.
