For well over a month now everyone has been getting emails from IT that shared network drives were migrating over to this new (and not so user friendly) system. They were told they needed to back up any important files they had onto their computer because many would be deleted.
Well, wouldn't you know it about half a dozen of the users never got the email and all of a sudden their PST (Outlook data files, they store all of your emails) were inaccessible.
For 3 days these people were calling the help desk and working with the other tech to get them back. Luckily yesterday they re-opened the drive (temporarily) to allow them to get their data off.
Only one small issue, none of them knew how to get the information or how to set up Outlook to access the new locations.
That's where the other tech and I came in. We spent close to 3 hours copying PST files (some as large as 2GB) and reconfiguring everyone's Outlook to access the new files, even employees who were not in the office (due to some against policy / policy (in regards to "buddies" and password sharing) that their department has).
Everyone was happy that we got their PST files back plus it was also nice that everyone could see "the new guy" (me) get the job done with great efficiency so hopefully people will also start seeing me with their issues (lots of tickets look good on my record).
