    Customers change is 3.64.

Do you just give him 3.65 even if there's no extra penny laying around?

    I wouldn't.

However, if the customer's change is, say, $3.99, that might be different.

Completely depends on the customer's attitude, and my likelihood of getting a penny from another source later. We used to have an item that would sell for $4.01. The nice (and I mean super nice) ones would get $1 change. Whiny ones would get the $0.99 every time, no matter if I had the penny or not.

I agree with Broomjockey. We have an automatic coin machine. If the customer is being nice, I will automatically just give them $1. If they are being sucky in any way I automatically send the $.99 shooting down the coin dispenser as I smile and say have a nice day!

As has been said above, it would all depends on the customer's attitude.

We don't really have a policy on that as such, I round for a few regular customers (again, it depends on their attitude). Or if they ask first, they can take the penny or two out of the charity bucket (we always get pounds of pennies, I've asked the owner about putting a penny cup at the reg but have so far been ignored).

We don't have pennies. But prices in places like supermarkets are $2.21, $5.24, etc. At the end of the transaction, the total might be $145.32. This will appear on the screen. I will say, "that's $145.30, thanks," and that's how much they'll pay if they have cash. If it's on a card, it'll charge for $145.32. Sounds odd but that's how it is. Same if it's $145.33, it'll round to $145.35. You get used to it.

You know, pennies are so annoying, and I use cash so rarely, I would completely get behind a proposition to get rid of them. Plus all the fun when people try to pay using pennies after they've been taken out of circulation...bwahahaha

At the racetrack, everything ends wither either.00, .25, .50, or .75. Makes change easy. I hate it when someone gives me change in something other than quarters there. It makes counting my money at the end of the day that much harder.

At the pharmacy I worked at, I nearly always gave out exact change. The only times I didn't give exact change were when the price ended with something like .99 and I didn't have any pennies left. I'd just make up for it with the give a penny, take a penny whenever someone put one in.
