Power Hungry or give an idiot a promotion & watch their ego swell up

Why is it when certain people get a promotion that it goes to their heads & they end up on a power trip? I know this girl on the base who just got promoted to Tech Sergeant & it's like she's suddenly turned into a 3 star general. Throwing her weight around like she's qeeen turd of shit mountain.
It makes working with those kind of people next to impossible cause they're always on the prowl to accomplish something that'll make the "brass" notice them. Highly ambitious & they don't care who they step on while they aim for the top of the heap. Ambition is good but Mr. Miyagi said it best in the Karate Kid movies..."Ambition without purpose is like a boat on dry land".

actually, usually it's them trying to prove to themselves and management they were worthy of it, and they aren't quite sure how to act. At least when they're still fresh to it. If after a few months they've not settled down, they're an ass.

I know I've told this story before, but it applies. Had a co-worker who was generally okay, but when he was promoted to supervisor, he went on a power trip. One day, after being a total dick ordering me to go do something at the theatre, not even letting me finish sweeping the row I was working on, we completely trashed him in the break room, making us all feel a lot better. After my break, I walked down the hall and saw co-worker on the floor, head on knees, obviously upset, with his g/f (who also worked there) trying to make him feel better. He'd obviously heard us. Strangely though, he never said anything, and improved immeasurably after that.

Just saying, sometimes, they really don't get it at first.
