Am I the only one who can't stand afternoon/evening shifts?

But I'm still the new girl, so I don't want to make a fuss, since I don't have a "real" reason I'm unavailable to work nights.
Your reason is that they lied to you about being hired for days, and you are not a doormat.

See if maybe you can get one or two day shifts a week to start. I don't like offering unsolicited advice - but I have been in your exact situation (and made the same mistake as you by not speaking up). If you're unhappy with your schedule, its better to get it changed early before they get too used to the way things are now.

If you have to ask, it's probably better posted at www.fratching.com

Up until a few weeks ago, I loved either mid or closing shifts. It was so nice being able to sleep in until 1-2pm.

Now that I'm on overnight... I go to work at midnight and get off between 8-9am. It's SO nice having the entire afternoon free! Yeah, I go to bed really early (3-4pm at the very latest), but I have no social life to begin with. I've done a total reversal to where I would never want to close again, and love opening. It's slower in the mornings, though there's a lot of physical labor involved with opening a grocery store (which I like.. I'm trying to lose weight).

This, after a decade of mostly closing or overnight shifts at various jobs.

Though I'm also no longer working for tips...

Mornings? Me? Not a snowball's chance on a June day in Phoenix!

I work days and nights, and the earliest any of my shifts start is 9 am...and that is rare, since that is only at the Waterfront Bar. At The Bar, my earliest shift is 10 am, and that suits me just fine. Also, except for special events, I never work past 1 am, and since the bars down here are often open till 4 am, I still have plenty of time to have fun....and still get my five hours of sleep before I have to wake up for the next shift, if I work the next morning.

I am unusual in the fact that I not only tend to like doubles, I ASK for them. Seriously. My philosophy is simple: if I'm gonna be at work, might as well work all day. And some days I work both jobs, the Waterfront Bar in the day time and The Bar at night. (The shifts wouldn't allow me to work that in reverse, and frankly, I don't like working nights at the Waterfront Bar anyway.)

Once or twice in my 1.5 years at the Waterfront Bar, back when I was one of the newer staff, I had to work the 730 am opening shift.

I am NOT pleasant at 730 am.

Worse, once at the hotell, Shit Weasel made me come in for a breakfast shift. At 6 am. I am even LESS pleasant at 6 am.

Y'all can have your opening shifts and your morning shifts. I am happy that people like you are out there, because it means people like me can sleep in and not work those Way Too Early For My Ass shifts.

I work full time, and part time, which means my second job is nights and weekends....when I started, it was 6-close, now its 5-close. That first hour is a killer! if we aren't busy, it crawls by...but the worst shift is Sat 2-10 - i ususally work Sat nights, 5-close, or sometimes days, 10-5, but that 2-10 is SOOOOO long....Sundays aren't much better; we eitehr work 11-7, 12-7 or 1-7 - and even though its only hour or two difference, i HATE 11-7 - maybe because I work all week, and then ahving to work all day sunday sometimes really sucks!~
