She's being paid to empty the trash....she should do it.
Maybe he wants to pay the cleaning service less since they don't empty the trash cans any more.

Maybe just...pull the garbage cans out from under the desks?

BM sent around a reminder email to everyone to empty our garbages before we leave tonight because he doesn't want the cleaning person "crawling under our desks" to empty our garbage. Crawling? Really? Everyone's garbage is an arm's length or less under the edge of their desks.

He says this is to make it "safer and more convenient" for her. If she's incapable of pulling the garbage can out from under our desks, maybe she shouldn't be in this line of work.

Oh, it's a safety problem? What about the safety of the workers who have to empty their own trash cans? OSHA needs to hear about this.

I could understand them asking y'all to simply move the cans a foot or two so they're next to the desks instead of underneath; I can't help but wonder what the exact conversation was that led to this mandate, and if it involved misinterpretation of an issue on P's part. Why is it suddenly a "safety" issue now after (what I presume is) years of the way it's been done up until now?

This is something I always hate...people throwing half-full cans/bottles of soda or cups of coffee into public trash bins. If you're not gonna drink it all, at least pour the remainder out onto the ground or into a convenient sink!
    Exactly!

I'm going to guess a significant number of employees are leaving half-full cans of soda in their trash cans.

What's next? You have to vacuum and clean the windows before they come in to clean the bank?

    Empty our own garbage

This is small and stupid, and I'm unaccountably steamed over it. Our Branch Manager sent around an email to everyone at the branch that we need to empty our garbage cans the night before the cleaning lady comes (she comes twice a week and starts half an hour before we do) because BM doesn't want her "climbing under our desks risking her safety" to empty our garbage. WTAF? We're not talking about some super-heavy or difficult to access garbage cans here. We're talking a normal office setting with small, plastic garbage bags with typical office garbage. The mop bucket that cleaning lady lugs around weighs more than all our garbage put together.

And this thing about "climbing under our desks" is super weird, too. Yes, our garbage cans are tucked under our desks. But all she has to do is lean down slightly and pull the cans out to empty them. A lot of the time, she shouldn't even need to do that. Just grab the can liner and pull that out along with our garbage. The only reason to pull the can out is if she can't reach to put the new bag in.

It seems unnecessarily nitpicky on BM's part. I don't know if he even discussed it with the cleaning lady. He didn't mention it in the email.
