  • My last day of retail work......after 30 years

    Tomorrow.
I was offered a buy out from my company...'cuz I make too much money for a salesperson in my store. ($13.42...a princely sum, to be sure...after 30 years with the same company)

I have worked with this store for 30 years, through three name changes, many areas, many job titles.....many customers.

So, now, I'm going to work for my last day, say good bye to all of my friends and co workers (they got me a cake!!) and then look for another form of enployment....hopefully NOT in retail.

I'll miss it, really. I was good at my job, and I was respected by my co workers and managers (it's just the COMPANY that doesn't give a crap about me...) I trained a lot of folks there, and they have been thanking me when they see me. My managers will miss the hard worker that they have lost.

My husband says that they didn't deserve me. Maybe I'll find someplace that WILL. Wish me luck!
    I no longer fear HELL.

Congratulations on getting out of retail.

30 years? How did you survive so long without losing your mind or sanity?
Answers are easy...it is asking the right questions which is hard.

congrats on getting out. any company that would only pay someone with 30 years experience $2.52 more than wal mart pays me probably didn't deserve you anyways

My guess is Enjis works (or worked) for Meijer. I know a few people at my store that have been there for close to 30 years and they make less than $13.42/hr.

Macy's. It WAS Marshall Field's, and before that, Hudson's. Got bought out by Macy's.

Yeah....making that little after all that time (and that was with me getting raises every year, 'cuz I was so 'outstanding') is a crime. I put up with it out of apathy, lazyness, and fear of the unknown. Mostly the fear.
But, I am now unemployed. My last day was really nice tho, saying good bye to everyone, hearing all the nice things they had to say about me....

I'll miss the people I worked with...but NOT the corporation.
Time to go on to something new!
          Anyone need some art?

          See my art here!

              Usually around 15 to 30 cents. and I'm a GOOD employee...one they're proud of!
(one time, *ONE* time, I got 50 cents.)
By the way...I just checked my last paycheck...I get $13.25 and hour, not $13.42. Wowsers.
Hope I can find something better, or at least supliment my pay with selling my art!
              Pathetic. Reatail pays shit. Really.

Thirty years there, and that's all they gave you? You deserve better, and I hope you find it. Perhaps you could try children's book illustrating (something I've considered looking into)?

Whatever you do, I wish you the very best of luck.
