  • Unlucky but lucky at the same time

    A little background information first.

The place I work with "A" has a drive-thru, the restaurant beside us "B" has a drive-thru too. The end of ours is is right beside the beginning of theirs. They are seperated by a large curb. Our restaurant is also built up on a curb as well. On the other side of their drive-thru is a curb as well. We open at 5am while they are 24 hours.

Anyways, it was a couple of weeks ago, and I had just come in from cleaning tables in lobby from the night before so it's ready for the customers, it's about 4:55am. I had my back turned walking behind the counter, when all of the sudden the entire store shakes. One of our sauces guns, flew across the restaurant and hit the wall. The next thing you hear is a crash and what sounds like breaking glass. I whipped around and notice glass all over one section of lobby and 2 tables and benchs hanging off the wall leaning on the floor. Part of the wall was also push in. The display case next the the windown had been shattered. I went "omg" (because I had just been there 30 seconds earlier) while the person in the kitchen had screamed because of the flying gun. The other manager (I'm one as well) came running out of the office. I was out in lobby looking at the lobby and trying to figure out what happened, when I looked out the window and saw a car, up against the side of the building (almost inside). I ran outside to see if she was okay. The girl was okay in the end, but was upset because it was her brother's car. It turns out the girl worked at "B" but she was in a hurry, reversed, into a parking spot, and instead of hitting the break to stop she hit the gas hard, in the process she flew over 3 curbs. Amazingly enough for her, their was more damage to our restaurant then her car.

In the few hours that passed, the people who built our restaurant were in to secure that side of the lobby with the support poles (because they thought there would be chance that it might cave in ), plastic put up over the window. Our store owner came in at 6am, which is the earliest that man has ever woken up. And yet to this day not one person knows for sure if the building has shifted for sure or not (but judging from the shake the building made we wouldn't be surprised). We also haven't seen any repairs what so ever with it. We'll see what happens with it.
