I'm 30 and I frequently get mistaken for being in my teens. I get carded for lotto tickets (must be 18 years old to buy them) ALL THE TIME. And at different places too. When I have my hair up in a bun or in a ponytail I look even younger. I wear very little make-up and this makes me look "fresh-faced young." If I wear my hair down and put make-up on I look maybe 20/21. Maybe.

The funniest story I have is when I went furniture shopping 4 years ago. My parents wanted to buy me a whole bedroom set for my birthday. They had just bought a lot of house furniture for my sister and her husband so they wanted to even things up. We went to a large furniture store and I picked out a gorgeous cherry wood set-10 pieces and all. The sales lady asked me if I was getting it for my high school graduation. My mom and I looked at each like, "Whaaaaat?" And we both giggled. I had just finished my MASTER'S!!!! I was actually very very flattered, but the sales lady was absolutely mortified. I felt a little sorry for her.

During my sophomore year of college I had 2 different people guess my age wrong. One person thought I was 14, the other one thought that I was at least 22 (based on the fact that she thought that I was in grad school). The difference? I opened my mouth and actually talked to the 2nd person. And I was wearing black (duh, I was working in a theater).

I had one woman exclaim, "Okay, I know you're telling me the truth that you're going to be 30 on Monday. But, I don't believe you." She thought that I was her age, 22.

While I look younger than my years, if I put my hair up in a bun, I can add 10 years to my age instead. At least I can't pass as a teenager anymore. I found that mildly annoying in college.

I offended one of the cops on duty at the store in September. I guessed his age to be 35.

    He didn't like that.

    Why?

He was only a few days away from his 26th birthday.

He still won't let me forget that...but I keep demanding proof and he won't show me his DL.

If I can get carded when I'm in my 30s or beyond, hell, I'll hug the clerk!
It's possible. I have been carded as recently as October. I am 37.

People are guessing my age more accurately these days than they used to (and some are guessing older! ), but just last November during the powerboat races, three people guessed me at 26, 26, and 27. Sweet!

I actually got carded for cigarettes a few weeks back when I was buying them for coworkers. (I don't smoke.) That was entertaining.

My mom is in her seventies and doesn't look it. Neither of my sisters look their ages either. I don't mind the fact that I (generally) look younger than I am, as I have always kept a young outlook on life. As I tell people, I am 37 going on 12.

My friend D-Rod is a knockout who never gets carded, because most people assume she is 26-27...that is the typical age they guess her at. This month will be her 20th birthday.

My friend Frank is three years younger than me, but most people assume he is 10 years or more OLDER than me. Heck, when he was still in his 20s, people were guesstimating him as being in his FORTIES.

It's really funny when I get flirted at by very young men. They know they are flirting with an "older women" but if they had any idea just how true that is, they'd probably run screaming.
I have to admit, that part of it is amusing!

I don't look my age, either. We have had several people in my family who seemed to be extremely slow agers. At 44, I'm discovering I'm lucky enough to be one of them. Which I guess makes sense, because my dad is one of them, too. Nobody can guess my age. If I'm tired or not wearing makeup, I'm more likely to get carded (I don't get carded because they think I'm a kid, but I do get carded because some people think I look under 35, and that's their gauge for deciding who to card. And then a double take is done. )

I'm 22, but look like a high schooler.

That may come in handy OR be my worst enemy next school year when I hope to be teaching....you guessed it...high school.

I'll just have to come dressed to the nines every day and not take any crap (which I don't already).

I've never looked my age. Most people peg me as older due to how I act. I do have a few stories about age mistakes:

    - Customer comes to my lane to purchase alcohol. I call the other cashier over to scan it. Customer looks at both of us and says "I came to your lane because I thought she was too young to scan it. How old are you?" I stated I was 18 (I was the only one asked). The other cashier stated she was 36.

    - I was at one of the hospitals in Springfield visiting a cousin with my parents and someone asked how old I was. I stated I was 14. She swore I was over 18 since I was acting so mature and behaved.

    - On my 21st birthday a couple friends and I went to one of the local gas stations to buy some booze. I wasn't carded, they were. They were 22 and 23. :-p

Well I thought i'd tell the story of one guard who worked with me. One day my boss told me that we were getting a new female guard as a full time guard where I work. Well I was up in a walkway area where we patrol and I look down and I see this little boy who looked around 12 standing at our desk and it appeared he was wearing what looked like a security guard uniform. Well when I was relieved from my area I came down and this kid had gone somewhere else and I asked my supervisor. so who was that little boy you guys were talking to? my supervisor then looks at me and laughs and says SHE is our new guard and SHE is 24(a year older than me)

This girl was no taller than 5'0, weighed about 90lbs and had extremely short blond hair and seriously looked like she was 12 and a boy but as I said she was 24 and turns out she also had 2 kids It was funny having her around because we had female patrons and staff members coming to us saying some 12 year old boy just went into the women's bathroom and we would have to tell them that was our female guard. One staff member even came up to our supervisor and started berating him for dressing up his son in a security guard uniform and having him hang around the library everyday saying "Your job is to dangerous for your kid to be hanging around with you" My boss looked at the staff member blankly and said SHE is not my kid and SHE happens to be 24 with 2 kids of her own. The staff member then slinked away chuckling with embarrassment. The Women was only around for a few months. She was way to small for security anyhow and got fired by our sexiest Operation Managers who had just started a month prior. He fired her on a bullshit reason about her calling in sick. She filed a grevance but I don't think anything really came from it

Why would it annoy you? I mean, if people were insinuating you were still in high school or early college, I can see where you'd get offended because that is a little silly...
That's exactly why. Since I've gone back to school, I've had a few people in classes assume that I'm just out of high school and try to tell me how college is going to be.

In 8th grade I was constantly being mistaken for 16-18 years old, I had a senior in high school flirt with me for a minute before I let him know I was barely 14.

Weird thing is, now that I'm nearly 23, I'm still being mistaken for 16-18. A new coworker of mine asked if I was in school still and I mentioned I just graduated from college, he gawked and was shocked that I was out of high school, he put my age about 17.

Guess it'll be a good thing when I'm in my 30's and getting carded at the bars!

I only get offended when people think I am still in high school, or when they think my 17 (almost 18) year old brother is the oldest one. It never fails, whenever I meet friends of my parents, they always baby talk me and say "So what grade are you in, hunnnnnnnny?" What grade am I in? Errr...15?

Seriously, take it as a compliment!
I find it highly annoying, in all honesty. I'm 38 and it irks the hell out of me.

I do remember, when I was about 22, waiting to get my hair cut...and the woman making chit chat with me...asked "so, is school out today?" (and it was obvious from her tone that she was NOT referring to college). I told her something like "hell if I know..."
I had something like that happen to me back in college. I was about 23 at the time. I had to go over to my old high school to vote and had to walk through a couple of halls to get to the library where the machines were. Got stopped in the hall by a teacher who asked me what class I was supposed to be in. I decided to play with her and told her French. She asked, kind of nasty, if I knew where the room was. I told her Breland Hall, which is on the New Mexico St. campus. This was her face:

I was in a bar two summers ago, when someone who thought he knew me started talking to me. He said he didn't know my name, but he was pretty sure we had gone to school together. I had grown up in that area, so it was possible, but I was drawing a blank.

When he told me what year he graduated, I told him we couldn't have possibly gone to school together, because I graduated quite a few years before he did. Then he asked me, "Well, how old are you? 27? 28?"

Since I was actually 37 at the time, I looked at him and said "Thank you!"
