When I worked at HR Blockenstuff during the tax season, at the end of our shifts, all the receptionists were required to balance and close out the drawer, fill out the report and have the manager submit it to the accounting department. Balancing and closing out the registers was a breeze, since the system tallies up all the electronic transactions (thankfully most of our customers paid by card and a few did with telecheck). The PITA part was manually counting and entering the coupons and cash (the coupons, were PITA's because some of the tax preparers would forget to hand them to me when they were finished with customers)..sometimes we had to manually enter checks in the system if the telecheck was malfunctioning. After everything is entered and tallied, it lets you know if you are short or over by X amount of dollars.

Yes! Someone else who has discovered the secret of making a computer behave. "I have a reformat disk, several tools to completely disassemble you, and know how to use both."

People swear I have a magic touch. I just tell them that the computer knows I will reformat its sorry ass if it misbehaves for me
Ditto. Whenever we had a problem debit reader, I was the only one who could get it to work right. Whenever I got asked how I did it, I replied "It knows I have no conscience telling me that throwing out into traffic is a bad thing."

Hehe, I was a little iffy on the money-weighing machine, but I grew to love it. I had the same problem - it won't count more than about 20 loose bills at a time (but you can just keep adding a little at a time to the scale), and pennies were off by one or two half the time, but otherwise it was accurate and it saved sooo much time. (The reason pennies were off sometimes is because they have different weights, depending on if they were made before or after a certain year, when they changed the "recipe." Or so we were told.)

Well, I take a less violent approach to making tech work correctly. I find that a good pat, some begging, or maybe some sweet talk does the trick for our main printer. It just needs a little lovin' that's all.

Now, those little hand held printers we use on the floor. Sometimes I have to get angry with those and whack them real hard. They work fine after than.
