  • Vendor of Fail

The partner I work for, on a daily basis, gets all types of unsolicited mailings from vendors trying to get her to buy subscriptions, services, programs, etc. I open them, trash most of them, then refer a very few to her. However, I was tempted to whip out my red editing pen to respond to one recent letter, after both she and I got a good laugh out of it.

It was from a translation service. They were touting their excellent service, the proficiency of their translators, the happiness of their clients, etc. Unfortunately, proofreading was apparently not one of their services, as, in their one-page cover letter, there were two misspellings and multiple grammatical errors.

Do you think it would have been too harsh?

Nah, in fact, edit it and then send it back. Then let us know what happens.

Seriously, I'd edit it and send it back to with a note asking "why would I use your company"

I once edited a memo on the side of a computer about vacation time since half the words were spelled wrong and it was hard to read.

They took it down a few days later.
