Moral of the story. Freebies should be given to reward good behavior, and recognize those people who are the anti-SC. And you really do get more if you are nice about things.

I completely agree. If a person opened up a business based on the honor system, where by people take what they want and are trusted to deposit money in a box up front for the goods they took, with no supervision, the business would go under in a day.

That is just the nature of the world today. Humanity has evolved into a self-absorbe, me first culture.

In general I agree with you, it's to the point where you have to lock everything up just to keep it. Oddly enough several of the farmer fruit/vegatable stands put their offerings in a stand near the road with the price per pound a set of scales and a box to put the money in. I've heard a few complain that they were missing product and fewer missing money. I think country folks are mostly honest. I'm a big believer in the Golden Rule, "Treat others as you would like to be treated".

I've never asked for anything free from screw-ups, I realize things happen but I generally don't turn them down if offered. When I do turn them down I'm very angry and I don't intend to return even for free food or drink if they can't get something I'm paying for correct and I really have no faith they'll get something free correct. I've learned the hard way that local ff joints can not get an order correct during the times school is out and the kids are working. I just stay away. I hate to say it but a lot of these kids that work ff simply do not care.
My big thing with Chili's is that several times my appitizer arrives minutes or seconds before the meal. At that time I don't want it, I've even had the appitizer arrive after the meal has been served. I also have this uncontrollable ability to turn invisible at Chillies and Applebees "I didn't see you sitting there." Me reply is ususally "That's what I figured, you've walked by 4 times and I'm a big guy, I have this uncontrollable ability to become invisible" delievered very deadpan.

If have an issue at a restaurant I will usually talk about it civilly with a manager. I don't lose my cool or demand anything.

Much of the time they will give me free drinks or a free dessert without me even having to ask for it.

Couple months back, I managed to get a freebie meal from a McDonald's totally by accident.

I was down in Savannah looking for a particular spot along the CSX yard. (remember, train nut?) While there, I managed to get myself somewhat hot and sweaty. Bouncing into the Micky D's, I ordered a powerade slush and sat back to wait.

Well, my slush didn't come. A few moments later, the mgr looks over at me and groans. "I'm sorry, the slush's being cleaned. Let me make it up to you." he says, and asks. "What do you want?" "Coke slushie." I said and then he smiled. "Anything else?" Nodding, (expecting to pay for the food) I said "Bigmac and Fries?" and started to dig out my money. When the food and soda came, he smiled, handed it over and then flat refused to take my money. He did also offer me a good location to take pictures too.

I still stop by all the time now, that mgr is a great guy, who I think recently became a DM for that district. I hope he goes far for them.

Working at a liquor store, there are constantly promotions going on with certains brands of liquor or beer. Lately we've had shirts (that could fit 3 of me in them, they are that big, and i'm only 115 pounds) with some beer and mugs with some other beer. (can't remember the names, I haven't been at work since the 6th ) It gets annoying when everyone asks for the freebie that comes with their overpriced beer, and then bitch when all we have is XL for shirts, or no mugs left. What do you expect for a freebie, people?!
