      Holy %@^@.

Give them our number. >< We can usually find a hotel for $50-90 for stranded folk. $80-120 if its really busy in one city and we sell out of the cheapies.

I bet the lines at work are in an uproar. glad I'm at home. =p

I'm so not surprised hotels do that.

I live in South Bend (home of a rather famous university with a rather famous football team). There's a Motel 6 in town which normally costs something like $29.99 a night. On football weekends, it's "only" $89.99 a night.

In 2005 for the much-anticipated game against USC, the downtown Marriott jacked up their prices to something like $400/night with a 3-night minimum. And they sold out.

do you happen to have something bigger than that
          Endloader?

come to Wisconsin-land of cows-we have a costco* opening up soon-three wal-marts and two targets(and Madison is only 200,000 people-still can't grasp why we need 3 walmarts and a sam's club)

*hoping to be hired at costco-$11.00/hour starting isn't bad really.
Honestly.... the image of that in my head made me go "AWESOME!"..... and then I remembered I am terribly strange.-Red dazes

Sheboygan has two Wal-Mart Supercenters and they're only 50,000 people.

I'd like a Costco. The one nearest to me is in Grafton.

Hold on, you'll get blamed for not getting enough reservations, when it's the hotel manager who's the... Oh, I think I'll not continue that sentence. There's no way it can end well.

Regardless, if you explain to your sup or whatever about the cost increase, is there any chance that'll make things go a little easier for you when the complaints come down, or do you have the sort of boss who believes that no matter what, it's your fault?

the problem is that management always looks at it and says "but the day shift people have more reservations"... it's like of course they do, they reserve all the rooms and leave nothing for us to book (seriously it is not unusual for a good 25-30% of the hotels I handle calls for to be sold out for the night by the time I get to work) and when they do douchebagish last minute rate hikes it normally doesn't affect the people on the day shift.

Green Bay is not much better 3 Wal-Marts and a Sams Club, 6 ShopKo's, Target, Yonkers, JC Penny, Lord and Taylors(yes I know people who shop there), small Sears, two big box office supply stores. but that is nothing compared to Appleton with the Fox River Mall

well, one way or the other I think that hotel just about sealed my decision to leave the call center... if nothing else I'm sick of being nothing more than "magical disembodied voice" (thank you Jester for the wording). That aside I think I may be starting to have jaw problems, which talking 6 hours straight can't possibly be good for (yesterday it got so bad that I yawned and I seriously had to remove myself from the call rotation for 5 minutes because my jaw was in so much pain just from a simple yawn).

Lexi asks because over here, we have the ACCC - Australian Competition and Consumers Commission - a pricing watchdog. So things aren't a simple supply and demand situation.

Similarly, for rentals (for long term at any rate), we have particular laws relating to rent rises etc, and if you feel a rent increase is too steep, you can appeal it in the courts (depending on which state you're in will depend on how much that will cost - free to about $50 or so...).

And then there's the Codes of Conduct.

Unfortunately - I don't think there's anything that really covers this situation
