I know that eating an albatross is a bad thing.

Then there's the 'woman on a ship' thing too.

PS - I saw on the news early this morning that they had a 'Talk like a pirate day' report but the sound was muted so I didnt hear what they were saying exactly.

I did get printed in the paper though:

It's killing the albatross that's bad. Having one fly along with the ship is good.

I don't think eating one is specifically covered under omens.

Not since I went to the doctor.

I mean, uh, nothin' to see, move it along!

I had a bit of fun with it. Went into town, and while at the coffee shop I ordered "Grog me hearty, with a fine wench to bide the time." Which raised many eyebrows until some older gentleman started singing "Dead Man's Chest."

I think the best, comes from a friend of mine serving in the Navy in Iraq. (he's in the sands, but can't tell me what he's doing.) They raised the skull and cross bones flag under the american one at revelee. Also, he said that one destroyer he was on, used to take part in a pirate day celebration (the one for blackbeard); and would be rechristened the "Jolley Roger" for it. She too raised the skull and cross bones; and even took part in a mock battle with Blackbeard's Schooner.
