Personally i think people look better without makeup and fancy clothes etc.

Appreciate them for what they are and not what they can seem to be with artificial covering / paint attatched
Hmm, I see it the other way. When someone's dressed plain, you can see only their physical beauty, but when they dress up, they wear their personality on the outside, and that makes them look more beautiful. That's the way I've always thought of it, but then again I'm very fond of dressing up...

I wonder if you are allowed to if you're not Hindu. Theyr'e beautiful dresses for sure. Probably cost a lot but they look more comfortable than corsets and lacy things.
According to the boss, if a Western person wants to dress like an Indian, they're more than welcome to do so. She told me about a cousin of a cousin or someone (this woman seems to have thousands of relatives scattered around North America), who married a white woman in a Hindu ceremony. She said the bride looked lovely in a sari that had been especially made, by hand, for her by the ladies of the family.

And this reminds me... if the occasion for getting dolled up is something really special, like a wedding, out come the henna tattoos that could make a Maori warrior cringe from jealousy. Those things are a lot more persistent than they're given credit for. On a couple of occasion, my boss has come to work with designs on her hands that look as intricate as an astronomy text from the Middle Ages.

        Thanks Haunted!

My only concern is finding one that fits, buying it, and ensuring I'm wearing it right. (I'm a stickler to ensure things are 'just right' when it comes to such things)

I have a few 'formal wear' outfits but most dont really intrest me. The saris do because they dont have as many visible seams... I mean, the dresses in the store are nice, but the seams where the cloth is folded under the boobs and down the sides turn me off. The 'wrap' styles really appeal to me.

Now to find out WHERE I can get one... hmm.

On that note, I am tempted to 'experiment' to see if people would treat me different if I dressed as Indian, even though i am (very) white, speak without an accent or anything, but I think we all know the sad results...

I kind of tend to be the opposite, in that I wear business casual to work, and when I'm off, a lot of times I'm in something appropriate for the barn, complete with dirt.

I tend to look a little homeless sometimes

Years ago, I worked with this one girl who had a second job, but would not tell most people what it was. I got along well with her, so when I asked her what she did....well let's just say or second job involved wearing little or no clothing. Yep, she was a stripper. She even told me where she worked too. I asked her wouldn't that be weird if somebody she worked with here decided to show up. She's like..."Oh, yeah, but you could come if you like."

I never took her up on that though. Damn....

Yea it can be weird seeing your co-workers out of uniform and all dressed up - or even dressed down, which is what happened to me.

When I worked as a dancer I wore heaps of makeup and skimpy clothes and stuff. One afternoon I decided to meet up with another one of the dancers for a casual lunch, and she was really surprised at how different I looked with normal jeans, a tank top, and without all my war paint. I could tell what she was thinking, and I was like "yea i'm actually very normal looking really, I only look tarty at work." Haha.

I'm always amazed by how much better many of my coworkers look in their normal clothes.

I really surprised the staff when I came in for my paycheck once. I had my hair down (I recently cut it, but back then it went down to my waist), I had on a cute red velvet dress with a reasonable neckline (white shirts buttoned up to the collar make a buxom female look horribly matronly, and I am no exception), and cute high heels. I think I turned a few heads.

Kind of funny, out-of-the-blue thing that happened to me the other day, while on this topic: I was doing my makeup in the ladies' room while I was at lunch, wearing a t-shirt instead of my usual work shirt, and one of the checkers walks in, stops, and stands behind me staring at the mirror for about 5 seconds. I finally say, "...What?" She blinks.

"Oh, I'm sorry, just...wow, your chest is big. I didn't notice it before, because of the apron, but yeah, you're huge."

                  "Um...thanks?"

Yesterday, I came to work wearing makeup and kinky hair with a bow clip. A few of my coworkers complimented me on it.

Slightly-OT...Not too long ago, I showed up at the gym in my 'business casual' stuff. Since I never drop by there directly from work, (I usually change into my workout stuff at home) several people looked at me like I had 3 heads

I get comments occasionally. I'm not really very pretty, just plain looking, but with the vests we have to wear, plus mine is like 2 sizes too big, everyone sort of looks the same. I keep my hair up because customers at the service desk bring back all manner of disgusting stuff. On my days off I wear my hair down (it's to my elbows), and jeans and a small t-shirt, and I look different, I guess. I have had people look at me all confused and not know who I am at first.

The people from my last job don't even recognize me at all without my glasses, since I switched to contacts, hahaha. I still wear glasses on my days off of work, and if I go in to shop, I get more weird looks.

This reminds me of when I got contact lenses my senior year of high school. Till then I always wore glasses and never so much as lightened/cut my hair.

So I got contacts, highlights and a very flattering 'do.

I come in and people start getting whiplash. Seriously, I got more "OH MY GOD!!!"s that day than ever.

Highlights grew out, the lenses stayed and not, I still get the OMG treatment whenever I visit back.

When I used to workk at Wendy's I started taking a change of clothes with me to change out of.Cause Wendy's uniforms arent flattering lol Baggy shirt and crappy pants, visor and hair in ponytail. The first night I did I got that exact statement "She's HOT??When did this happen??" I had my hair down(to my elbows) and a nice shirt and black dress pants. All the guys were staring like I had grown 3 heads.

I seem to think some are better looking in uniform. Tight black slacks on girls with the right kind of underwear....

This one girl at my school went into the supermarket once and saw me working there. She told me I looked nice all dressed up like that. I told her I looked even nicer with nothing on at all.
