  • I saw the sign I've wanted to put on games for years

It was on a soda machine, not a game... nonetheless...

"Out of order. This machine is unplugged. Do not put any money in it. It does not work."

Awesome sign. I just wondered how many people actually read it and understood it.

Back when I was a bus driver, the company would have a free day once a year. We would cover the fare box with tape. People would still try to put money in. The opening was fairly large and usually wasn't sealed up completely. People would get on, read the sign saying"Free Day," read it OUT LOUD, say "oh well" and put money in.

Because????? Because it was too much trouble to put that money back in their pockets, I guess.

Edited to show what the SC would actually see on that sign.

When I worked in the arcade at Kings Island, I would have people come to me complaining about a machine not working. When I went over to said machine, I would often find the the out of order sticker had not been removed from over the coin slot, but there was a perfect, quarter-sized hole in the sticker. Yes, they had pushed the money right through the out of order sticker!

I actually got so irritated one day, I asked some of them, "Why in the world would you push a coin through the Out Of Order sign? It's bright orange!" I got a few answers:

              1) Variations of "I dunno."

              2) "But I wanted to play the gaaaaaaame!" <Just as whiney as you imagine>

3)"Um...It was like that when I got here. I thought it was okay to use." Right. Because arcade goers will just walk away from a lost quarter without complaint. Sure it happens. But not often.

At the gas station I worked at I once witnessed someone A) pull up to a broken pump B) Move the Traffic cones that were placed in front of said pump C) complain about the piece of paper that said "out of order" that was taped to the screen.

People moving cones was a pretty common thing, as was the cones being run over.

I've seen that too. Also I've had people take cones out of the car wash, drive in, put money in, and complain about the hose being missing.

When the card readers are out of order on the gas pumps at our stores gas station, there is a large red sign that is inserted into the card slot that says Out of Order. The other day a guy came in complaining about the pump not working..it was locked up. He had removed the sign from the card slot, run his card and then put the sign back into the slot. It wasn't busy, so I don't know why he went to that pump instead of one of the other 9 pumps that were working...or if he had hit Pay Inside and pumped his gas and then come in and run his card it would have been fine. Idiot!
