  • Daylight Savings is Goofy

When it happens while you're at work, on the clock, and you realize, you're pulling a 13 hour shift, and are only going to get paid 12 hours for it....

On the humorous side, I wonder what the person who's car I ticketed will think tomorrow when they look at the ticket and see this...

    SPOT TIME - 2:45 AM 11/02/08
    TIME OF TICKET - 2:00 AM 11/02/08
VIOLATION - EXCEEDED 15 MINUTE PARKING
    - They say nothing good happens at 2AM, they're right, I happen at 2AM.

Yes, the extra hour on my shift tonight was very enjoyable. <twitch>

That's odd. Do you go back at 3 or something? Here we go back at 2, so it would have been spotted at 1:45, ticket at 1. If it was my car though, I'd have to snicker at the timetravelling ticket. Be almost enough to make up for actually getting it.

To my knowledge it's a change at 2am. Unless you're in one of the US states that don't conform to Daylight Savings time.

Which seriously gets confusing for a few days.

That is one thing I hate about security, we didn't get paid anything extra for time changes. We were paid 8 hours and only 8 hours.

            That sucks.

I can just hear management saying: "But you win out when it is the other way around."

Back in the dark ages when I'd do overnight shifts, the rule was if you worked the spring time change, you had to work the fall time change.

At least it was fair. About the only thing about that job that was fair.

They told our 3rd shifters not to clock after their first break, to just write down their times and they would put it in the computer to make sure they got paid for the entire shift.

Our night shifters get paid for the extra hour. To add to that, they even get paid for the extra hour they are shorted in the Spring.

Yeah we always got paid the extra hour and the full 8 at Daylight Savings. First year in 7 years I haven't had to work the shift, though. It was good, and bad lol

Um, if you're in the US and you're an hourly employee they have to pay you for that hour. If not, take it up with the local labor board. It may mean that payroll has to be finagled a bit because they have crap software that doesn't take the time change into account, but still. Avoiding paying you is not a valid option.

If you're salaried...sucks to be you.

All the times I've worked drag shift over the daylight savings changes, somebody's manually changed the payroll computer so I get the extra hour (or lose the missing hour) of pay.
