  • And why are people allowed to do this?

My company sent out voluntary separation package emails (like voluntarily being laid off with a package). They're trying to save money still and cutting corners wherever we can, even asking us (IT) to try not to drive our vehicles as much (take care of as many tickets remotely).

We also have this policy, if you need to drive over 100 miles for work, you get a rental car. I needed this once with my ex-supervisor so we got one car (it was a day trip) that was the lowest end /cheapest thing we could get.

I was talking to someone this morning who had to go to Daytona Beach for a meeting (over 100 miles). What did she rent?

    A Jaguar.

Now, I see we're wasting money but the double WTF part?

She already has a company vehicle.

WTF? And these people are allowed to do this while I'm not allowed to swap out someone's keyboard if it's missing several keys??

I think I'd stop in for a nice, private conversation with the Finance VP (or whatever they are in your company) about how that looks. Nothing on the record, but mention that some people are going without needed computer fixes while others rent Jags for a meeting. If nothing else, hell will be raised. Finance guys hate working their butts off to save a company while others blow money like confetti.

Waste like this is going on all over the place. A VP flies down from Atlanta. He has his admin book his flight, first class, less than a week before he goes. He also has her overnight early-AM express all of his books so he doesn't have to carry them.

when the shipping company started to make cuts (about 8 months before the global economy started going kaput) they cut 10% company wide jobs and all departments got a 15% cut on funding on TOP of that

I was in charge of 1/2 of the office support budget, I had to chop off around 5 grand for my office supplies. With my manager (who talked to other managers) we did everything from putting stationary under lock and key (my lock and key) and would only hand out supplies to new employees and to managers..... not my idea because it was ridiclues when people would ask me for a pen and I would have to say "no go to your manager"

I also had to cut our coffee/tea/biscuits and the other supplies for the office, no one grumbled thank goodness because people were losing their jobs and most people who were staying took a pay cut (strangley I was given a 2 grand payrise during this time)

I also had to order catering for the CEO and 2IC (all other catering had to be okayd through my manager) but if the CEO rang and said "kiwi I need lunch for 20 people tomorrow at 1pm" I would order it no questions asked.

So after numerous meetings about how EVERYONE has to cut absolutly everything that isnt essential to do your job, and this is a team thing and no one is to important to cut to the bone blah blah I start getting very expensive catering requests from you know who... The CEO and the 2IC. Usually these orders would be once a week, twice tops. Now I got orders EVERY SINGLE DAY for 2 months as all the mangers needed breakfast and lunch and sometimes dinner provided for them as they were too busy cutting costs...

The bill for the second month was well over the 5 grand I had to cut..... yeah, I hear you saying it. One rule for management and one for everyone else....

Yep. We can't order parts that we need yet some supervisors are spending like crazy.
