FYI: I work for a company that does phone and video work in jails. This happened earlier this week.
Boss: hey Crosshair, we need you to go to CB and pull the drives on one of their DVRs (Digital Video Recorder".
Me: What's wrong with it, will it not boot or is is it just getting read errors?
Boss: No, one of the inmates hung himself and they need the drives for evidence.
Me:........Oh Goodie. What kind of drives do we need?
The guy was convicted for a rather serious crime years ago and was going back to prison on a probation violation. (The kind of crime where other inmates will beat/kill you if they find out what you did.)
Yes I did check the video, you only see him going into his cell for lockdown and the staff wheeling his body out of the cell a few hours later. Had to confirm that I had the right disks.
I can't imagine what the staff feels like. They didn't do anything wrong, they did their cell checks like they were supposed to, but they will probably still be subject to a lawsuit from the family. I feel sorry more for the staff than the inmate.
