My boyfriend actually works for Sony. People have lost their minds. He said they've been calling all week pretty much offering everything but the kitchen sink to all the employees to get their hands on these things.

It's really funny to hear some of the stories.

PS3 pre-orders are breaking the 1500 dollar mark on E-Bay, IIRC.

They're in short supply, but people want them. The Wii has a much larger release, but it's hype is pretty much confined to the boards and game industry. They're hoping to crack the casual market, so it'll be intersting to see that.

As for the PS3 supply underruns, I doubt it was expected. However, I also doubt they wanted to push back the launch when they've already pushed it back at least once(I believe it was actually twice). So, they just said 'GO with what we have'. It may impact sales at first but, frankly, the PS3 sold out, will probably do so for a while as the true 'gotta have the prettiest' and Sony fanboy gamers buy it.

The question on the PS3 is if it can sell enough to keep exclusives at least till it's first price drop or two, when it'll drop into the more affordable(though still expensive) range. We'll just have to wait and see... I'll be hunkered down over my PS2, tyvm...

It will be a cold, cold day in hell when I buy a first-gen Sony console ever again. Until Sony proves that there hardware isn't the same garbage they put out with the first two systems, I think I'll abstain.

Either that or I'm just blustering because I'm poor and can't afford to buy the new systems right away.

Nah, the PS3 looks way overpriced and probably buggy as hell. It's like the NeoGeo all over again.

I wonder if you all realize you're repeating all the statements that are featured in the VGCats comic that somebody beat me to posting...

*) The low ammount of units beign produced

*) The comparatively enormous ammount expected at the same time from Nintendo

*) The fact that the few ones with a PS3 can auction the thing for a LOT

BTW there is something that I think NEEDS to be said... to everyone whose stores will sell PS3s in the first wave of production, people I'd SERIOUSLY ask the managers to hire an extra security guard for that week, things might get ugly with SCs

That would be a good idea, but IF IT MAKES SENSE, IT'S NOT ALLOWED.

As far as the VGats cartoon, I think both Nintendo and Sony are going to make a pretty penny. There won't be as many PS3s out there, but the ones that are out there will sell. I think the PS3 uses more advanced technology, so maybe sony can't get so many produced for launch.

I think Nintendo products have gotten a reputation for being a little more "kiddish", while the PS3 and XBOX 360 are geared more to the serious gamer. There's a market for both of them, and that's why I think electronics is going to be absolutely ape-doo doo this Christmas.

Nintendo's being honest with themselves. These are toys, remember. I think this "Gold, Silver and Bronze pricing scheme" thing that Microsoft and Sony are doing this year is especially dumb.

I dont understand why this "semi-global launch" is the approach being used. I remember way back in the day when Japan may have gotten the console's first, but that also usually ment that when a new console finally did launch state side, there was alot more software available [devkits being available for months] and that there were more units available. This is all for the holiday rush, what we might run into is another "Empty Box" special, because the total system output of 500k is WAY less then the demand in US/Japan, even at the psychotic price-point. Honestly Nintendo Wii has my money already, I am excited to see some of the games [think Red Steel], and yes nintendo has a reputation for kiddie games, but they also have nostolgia for the Adults. I sitll enjoy playing a Zelda or a Mario because even if it is not the same game, it takes me back to a different time. Add in the Wii's ability to play back-catalog games from the NES days onward, and what we have is formula for success for the kids and for the adults.

The X360 is sweet, I enjoy it, but I am just not interested in a PS3...especially with the nasty rumors going around about how games are locked to the console.

That rumor's still out there? I thought it got quashed some time ago. It's just that, a rumor. There's no locking games into a single console.

Freaky as Sony may be over DRM, they're not *that* stupid.
