I just started working part-time at a c-store. Sunday we ran out of Newport box because our SM apparntly forgot to order them. We did have softpack. Is there any diffence other than the package? As a non-smoker I'm pretty clueless about different types of tobacco products. People were pissed that we didn't have boxed (typical SCs).

Box, soft-pack; what's the difference?

In terms of flavor and other such facets of smoking pleasure, there isn't a difference between box and soft pack.
Soft packs tend to squish easier, though.Unseen but seeing

exactly. Boxes are stronger, softpacks squish. As a smoker (I know, don't tell me
) who keeps them in his cancer stick in his front pocket a lot, they aren't all bent and broken when I take one out to light up.

According to some of my customers, soft packs were the tool of the devil sent to deceive the weak into believing that boxes were unnecessary.

We got this in about a month ago, but I have yet to have any insurance pay for it, yet. They'll at least cover Wellbutrin, as long as they don't know it's for smoking cessation....

I prefer box- my hubby prefers soft pack.
I like the boxes because they are stronger and my cigs don't get all broke up.
He likes soft pack because the cigarettes are longer. Seriously, take a pack of Marlboro reds box and soft and lay them side by side- the soft pack is taller than the box.
I don't mind because I smoke 100's- he smokes shorts.
Neither of us get bent out of shape about it either way though.

You would think insurance companies would gladly pay for stuff like this. The amount of money they would save by having their customers not smoke would outweigh the cost of providing the drug.Quoth AFpheonix View Posthttp://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/...n1611288.shtml

Yeah, but they tend not to take the long-term view. The same way they often don't cover birth control pills, even though it's much cheaper than covering all the pregnancy costs (not to mention also insuring the kid).Quoth trunks2k View PostYou would think insurance companies would gladly pay for stuff like this. I suppose in some ways it makes sense. People change jobs and insurances so much that they can't be at all sure that smoker will still be covered by them when he or she develops lung cancer, emphysema, or heart disease. That, and short-term savings are easier to document and look better on paper.

Out here in the country, we sell a lot of soft packs. The farmers like them because they can keep them in their shirt-pockets and use one hand to get them out instead of taking them out, opening the lid to the box and picking one out- they can simply tap the soft pack on the opposite side of the opening and when the cigarettes fall to the opening, they use their lips to coax one out.
I prefer hard pack as I keep mine in my purse with my wallet, cell phone, etc and I don't want them to get broken. It's just preference."Most lies about blondes are false."

I never did mention MY preference.
I prefer box, yes. Do I throw a fit if they only have soft packs? No.
I really should find my cigarette case. It's awesome.Unseen but seeing

Box/Hardpack keeps its shape better and less chance of a broken smoke. Softpack is better for a onehanded retrieval of a smoke, it reduces its size as the # of cigs inside get lower, and supposedly (heard this once) tend to be a little fresher for some reason then the hard packs (don't know if its true, I never noticed a difference myself when I was smoking). My Karma ran over your dogma.

when i smoked, i always wanted boxed. call me crazy, but i swear that when i smoked th same brand cig out of a soft pack, my throat seemed to burn. i wasn't looking for a reason to hate soft packs, cause if a store is out of hard packs, all i could get is soft packs. but for some reason, soft packs of cigs made my throat burn. the hard didn't. but now..im not a smoker, so it doesn't matter either way.

If we run out of the soft packs and if I like the customer in question and they're in a good mood, I'll "offer" to make the box into a soft pack, if you get the idea.
They think it's hilarious. They also love it when I ask them if they want their "poison in a box/pack."I'm bringing disdain back...with a vengeance.
Oh, and your tool box called...you got out again.
