I'm contemplating quitting my job soon, it's about time i actually got a better job but because this is my first job i've never handed in a resignation and i was wondering if someone could give me a rough idea of what i should write.

depends on your relationship with the company IMO. i quit burger king and i just wrote a BS letter saying how i had a great time but i gotta move on. For my current job (one and a half weeks left YAY!) i have a great relationship with managment and my super. So i just wrote a one liner saying 'My last day is nov 8th' and i mentioned how great my supervisor was and i handed it to him in person. Whole letter was about 3 sentences long.Fan? This is shit. Shit? Meet fan.

It totally depends on how you want to leave, did you like the job? or the company? all of these things should help you write the letter. However a basic letter is below (written if you liked the company). Keep it short and sweet and to the facts... they dont need a novel, its just a formaility anyway...ending the paper trail if you will.
Date the letter
To whom it may concern,
This is my written notice to inform you of my resignation. My last day of work will be (date). I would like to take this oppurtunity to thank you for the experianced I have gained working for this company.
Yours sincerely,
YournamehereI wasnt put on this earth to make you feel like a man ~ Mary Bertone

If your job is at will (they can fire you without warning or compensation; you can leave without warning-- ie, most jobs) in a relatively small place (small enough that you know the manager/owner, and he knows you), especially if you're working part time, feel free to skip the written part and just tell himQuoth altered_reality View PostI'm contemplating quitting my job soon, it's about time i actually got a better job but because this is my first job i've never handed in a resignation and i was wondering if someone could give me a rough idea of what i should write.

Go as high up as you can; that way if you get a manager or supervisor whinging about your notice period, you can say "Oh but when I told the boss he said that's fine." For the pizza place I gave just 1 week's notice; the manager did not like that at all, but the boss had authorised it so she couldn't do a thing.
