Needless to say, working at different stores is getting old pretty darn quick.
Two weeks ago, I was helping out at a store clear across town. Nice store, management is kickass. I didn't meet an employee that didnt' give me a bad vibe at all. They have an opening for a full time HBA person, but the bad part is it's so far to travel (25 minutes each way.)
Last week, I worked at my store for 2 days, then went to Mohair's old store for 3 (DSD person was taking some vacation days off and of course nobody is trained, including the current store management, to handle the vendors.) While both the store manager and AM seemed to be awesome, some of their office people left a bit to be desired personality-wise. Their new CSSM is a bit snooty, I encountered another p/t office person who wanted to goof off and chat more than she was working. Not a good vibe there.
It's closer than the first store, but in a rough side of town. And they don't do as much volume as my store. They were basically DEAD last week. Just by doing the daily vendor section walk, most of the sections were pretty full. The vendors weren't bringing in much at all in the way of product.
I think Wednesday is D's slow day - I only had 2 vendors, got reclaim scanned and added to the pallet already started, did vendor walk and basically wandered around, learning where stuff was, checked for front end backstock to work thru (there was none) and helped straigten up the HBA aisle until it was time for me to leave.
Thursday was busier as far as vendor traffic went. I still had time to do the weekly grocery rotation check and helped do some more on HBA. Combo truck arrived after 11 (running late due to computer glitch that prevented warehouse from printing orders to pull product) and worked up what little bit of stuff came in (one tote of candy for registers and 12 cartons of cigs.) I definitely got a bad vibe (again) after seeing the same two police officers come into the store and leave w/someone in handcuffs.
Friday I scanned what I had found on dates on Thursday/checked in vendors/did vendor section walk/and did an order for Saturday's truck (enough to fill holes but no backstock.) Swept down backroom area and took out trash (in the rain no less) and ran through bread backstock and tidied up that section.
Today, I went back to my store to find out that Mohair is on vacation (again) and Opie is back (he was on vacation again last week) and Dairy Queen is telling me I'm supposed to be at his wife's store (she works at the next closest store to us) to help out in HBA.
Looks like somebody forgot to either call or email this past weekend if that's the case. I go clock in, work on the Halloween candy section and get the last of the backstock to the floor and do some rearranging (got to eliminate 2 displays.)
Then Mohair wanders in and finds me. Turns out he was sending me over to the other store, but forgot to call and couldn't remember my email address. He had a meeting to go to today and would see the store manager and let him know about the goof and for me to go there tomorrow.
Hopefully I won't be traveling about for a spell. According to Mohair, I'm supposed to be there for a few weeks, but there's a chance it could become permanent. That store doesn't have an HBA person at all (just like the other store I helped out at 2 weeks ago.)
From what I hear, the store manager is new (Gambler had been transferred to that store, but he's now across town and busted down to an AM.) I'll meet him and probably their AM tomorrow. Their market manager is our old one (who was just transferred there two weeks ago) and I'm acquainted w/the scanning person (Dairy Queen's wife. She's a real trooper for putting up w/him for over 25 years. Really nice lady.)
I just wonder how many times I'll see the police show up and if I'll get to learn their names.
