  • I want to strangle someone...

...for today sucked big hairy monkey balls.

Seriously. So because of Daylight savings (which loathe btw) I woke up like 20 minutes before I had to be at work (I live 15 minutes from work) so I was rushin big time. Thankfully I managed to get dressed and to work only 7 minutes late. Not bad. So I was already in a bad mood. And as soon as my MOD spotted me he came up to me. Now he was in the Service desk with todays schedule/break sheet in hand. I already knew that was a bad sign.

    MOD: Hi SG15Z!!
    Me: (cautiously)...Hi....
MOD: Here's the clipboard, you have 6 call ins today.
    Me: ...What?!
    MOD: Yep!
    Me: <whimper>

Then about noonish and so many failed attempts at calling people into work...

    MOD: SG15Z.
    Me: What now?!
MOD: A (my late night SCO person scheduled 5pm to 11pm) just called in.
    Me:

No seriously guys the second he told me that the counter and my head got to know each other pretty well. So in total we had:

    Call ins:
    • 2 Cashiers
    • 1 CSR
    • 1 SCO attendant
    • Both Maintenance (the clean up guys) guys
    • A girl in Starbucks
    • An Attempted one in Dairy (we told him no way he can walk he's coming in)

    1 hour late:
    • 1 cashier
    • 1 sacker

    4 hours late (no joke):
    • 1 sacker

So 7 1/2 call ins (the 1/2 is for the attempted one) and 3 people late. Did I forget anything.Oh yeah I got to pull an 11 hour shift because of this! >.<
    Yay! [/sarcasm]

And it's been like this the whole weekend (including Friday). I mean normally we'll have about 3 callins on the weekend, and an hour late on daylight savings is normal. But this, this was a nightmare. I'm so glad it wasn't that busy or I would have called my CSM and told her she was coming to work NOW. And the first customer to complain that we don't have enough cashiers would have gotten a good punch in the face. Just saying, that's how frustrated I was today.

    *sigh* I'm hungry now..........

<hugs> Yeah, DST bites. Big time.

Add that to the bus breaking down, the fun phone calls I got to deal with this morning and the general suckiness of 2009 in general? I was very late to work today.

Put some ice on the head! It hurts when ti meets desk. I know from personal experience...

Yeah....after the last few weeks I no long hate weekends. I loathe weekends with a passion. And of course I'm never off on the weekends...2008 sucked and 2009 doesn't look like it's gonna be much better. Especially for you. You've had a really bad start so far....

I know you were in a tight spot, and since he showed I'm sure he was able to work, but let me tell you - I absolutely hate that kind of response from an employer when I call in. Sure I may be able to walk, but what about the fact that I'm running to the bathroom to puke (or, in the end, just dry heave) every few minutes?

Although once I got to tell the grocery store where to stick it when they used that line on me. My bad knee wouldn't hold any weight so, in fact, the reason I called in was that I could not walk and I knew I was scheduled for cart duty that day. My manager was not happy and tried to argue. I asked her how I'm supposed to collect carriages while on crutches. She didn't have a good answer for that one.

I love it when everyone calls in on the weekend. And there's like, no way it's coincidental at all . . .

Metalheads with the shiny yellow lights? The ones you have to fight in order to get the Peacemaker was pretty fun, actually.

Ok I need to clarify. All he had a slight stomach ache and a headahe. It made him a little sluggish sure but he had no problem doing the job. In fact he was fine with it. He was miserable but he was fine with working since we were in a bind. Plus we ordered pizza for everyone so he's happy now. Now if you'll excuse me I'm getting a headache myself. Today was bad too....

Is there anything to understand in the above quote?

Also, just to make sure I wasn't misunderstood, my head being metal is harder than most desks. So I don't get a headache from ing. Which is an advantage 'normal people' don't have.

I'm with Gerrinson. I would not take kindly to being told that.

But then I only call out when I absolutely need to, which may not have been the case here.

Yeah I'm the same way. I only push if I have reason to believe they don't really need to call in. But then I usually also remind them I can't make them come in, and I understand if they don't. My managers on the other hand will just push and push and push.....

Its sounds like you need to start writing people up for calling out. I mean I'm all for being "excused" if your sick, but that many people just doesn't seem likely.

It's actually a relatively modern invention. The idea is that since businesses have fixed hours, it's easier to change the clock so that everyone's still operating on the same time, and it's an energy saving measure. Since the sun sets later in the day, you have your lights on less, thus using less electricity. Look it up. Apparently the equivilent of a couple million barrels of oil have been saved.

This also prevents the sun from rising at 4 in the morning around here. Which I appriciate.
