  • Stomach pains...

So I woke up at about 6AM this morning with pretty severe heartburn. I was up for at least an hour and ate 10 antacid tablets (That's the maximum dose for any one day). It wasn't "better" when I went back to sleep, but it was ignorable. This morning I dragged myself to work even though my stomach was still feeling really acidy and now I can't get comfortable. It just burns. It's distracting and it gets worse when I get hungry.

At some point when I was trying to eat lunch I kept getting phone call after phone call so I couldn't really eat and I almost passed out from the pain. I don't know that I've ever had a sour stomach carry over into the next day.

Has anyone else dealt with this? Any idea what could be causing it? Please don't tell me to go to the doctor, I'm not off til Thursday and if it keeps it up til then I'll go for sure. I just wanna know if any of you guys have dealt with this?

Sounds like an ulcer. Does it feel better when you drink milk? (or at least a little less burny)

You didn't start any new meds did you? Like antibiotics or vitamins? Those can be nasty to a tummy. Just asking "I didn't think of that" question.

You want to watch what is going on, if the pain gets really specific, or spreads out more, you also know if you start to vomit you want to go in off work or not. Fever is another sign just go in. Ulcers can be sneaky. Apendix is another thing I am thinking of that might cause some of that discomfort, but that will start to get specific in where the pain is as well..

Try some Ice Cream(really good vanilla) its really good at cutting the acid, or move over to a pepsid tab not tums and try to eat some smaller meals more frequent too so your tummy has something to work on and not produce massive amounts of stomach acid. Lots of fluids, but watch the acidy stuff like coffee, juice. Soda is double edge sword, it can help you burp but not be kind to a sensitive tummy..

      I hope you feel better.

Might want to have your doc check you for acid reflux and also check your gallbladder whlie you're at it. Granted, with your symptoms, the gallbladder is a long shot, but I've seen bad gallbladders manifest in all sorts of weird ways. It could also be a bile leak. And as always, IANAD.

            Seconding seeing your doctor soon.

In the meantime, milk and breads will help keep the acids down. Intake slowly over the day, rather than all at once.

I tried the milk/icecream thing last night on my way home from work. I'm feeling a lot better today. Although I had some discomfort when I first woke up.
I'll make an appointment with my doctor for later this week when I'm off work.
              Thanks for the advice guys.

Good! I don't want to scare anybody, but "heartburn" can also be a symptom of a heart attack, especially in women. Glad to hear you're going to the doctor, though!

Oh and try to avoid aspirin or ibuprofen. Paracetamol works just as well and doesn't thin the stomach as much.

What fireheart17 said. Definitely stay away from Ibuprofen. If you don't drink enough water with it (at least 8oz before and 8oz after you take it) and take it on a regular basis, it can erode the lining of your stomach. Good luck, and update us after you see the doc.
