  • How to injure oneself during a shift...

-Get asked to bundle up that day's newspapers and stick them in storage.
-Go to take newspapers and realise that your ring finger is jammed in a nearby shopping cart.
    -Go to take finger out.
-In process finger is twisted and starts to swell.
-Fireheart freaks out, thinks it's broken and then calms down when she realises that it's just strained or sprained.
-Get told to call the waaambulance by my coworkers who have nothing better to do on a Monday night

    And today...

-Drop a bag rack on my foot.
-Bang my arm against a back rack.
-Bang into several things including walls, to the point where I question my sobriety.

So I'm a klutz at work!

    that is all.

Ha. I've walked in to so many walls, corners, doorframes, and random bits of furniture, I'm surprised there's no rumours of my covert alcoholism.

Just don't injure yourself too badly, k?

I have to admit, I'm impressed.

Usually people like you have a clause in the contract saying " Workmans comp does not apply due to a risk of bankruptcy".

I was building a circle rack once, and managed to supremely pinch my finger in it.

The nail turned some impressive shades of blue and purple after that.

Otherwise, I don't think I'm quite as creative as the OP when it comes to injuring myself at work.

What makes it more funny is that

          a) I'm a checkout chick.
          b) the bag rack came from the express lane

Finger is doing fine. It's not nearly as swollen, just very stiff. I can bend it, but it hurts.

Well that must explain my entire life - didn't know I was an alcoholic. I swear I constantly find bruises all over from running into, well, everything. I know where I got it from though - my mom managed to break a toe by clipping it on the corner of the sofa. Thanks Mom!

Though I haven't to give myself quite so many workplace injuries as the OP...I guess I'll have to try harder

Lets see, when I was working at my last construction/factory job, I dropped a pressure treated 4x8 board onto my right toe (twice). That turned it a nice shade of green.

Was hammering the double top plates of the pre-framed wall and accidentally hammered my thumb. Split the nail in half and had to soak it in peroxide.

At all jobs, I would walk into something.

I walk into things all the time. I used to walk into the corners of shelves at the gas station I worked at all the time. I usually did it in front of customers too, when I was getting something out of the cooler for them, I usually hit things pretty hard so they'd usually look all worried and ask if I was alright. I'd just go, oh, right I walked into something, happens all the time!

If I'm not banging my hands against the register, it's not an official day at work.

I also keep banging my head.

                  I'm special.

Didn't you have a thread dedicated to updating every time you'd injured yourself at work?

Yes, but I think it's closed now.

And it wasn't *every* time, just when I did something in a spectacular manner.

ah yes. Auto-closing. Usually a blessing.

I do remember, there were some doozies in there. Actually made me safer, as I kept my eyes open so I wouldn't have my own stuff to add.

Last weekend I closed my thumb in a cupboard door, close to the hinge where it closes tightly. I wanted to cry. Even a week on it is black and purple behind the nail.

It is pretty obvious, I guess you could say it sticks out like a sore thumb....
