    ooo. new bones ftw

And... this is one I never expected... Driving home with the groceries, I keep seeing cop cars on the way home. I reach an intersection and there's another cop, only this one pulls out in front of me and parks with his lights flashing... and then I realize they're not letting *anyone* go down that road, not even some guy on a bike.

Five minutes later, 4 motorcycle cops come through, followed by 2 more police cars all with their sirens on... followed by two black limos (very non descript), a van of soldiers and an ambulance.

Then about maybe an hour or two later the same motorcade comes back, going right through my apartment complex.

I looked it up online to see who'd be here with that kind of escort... So, I guess you can chalk me up for one VP sighting now.

    • Did you ever find out who it was?

      • Blew a local weather man back in Boston. He had e-mailed me on a web site that specializes in such meetings. ;-)

It was funny because he wore the suit he was going to wear on air that evening.
I guess I'm the only one who knew he wasn't wearing underwear and had on 2 cock rings while reporting.

          • The building I work at now is owned in part by Magic Johnson. I haven't met him, but my supervisor has- when the building first opened last fall he visited. My sup said he introduced himself as Irvin and he didn't realize who it was for half a second.

Also, a congresswoman, a senator, and a Washington Nationals (pro baseball) player all live in the building. I helped the congresswoman get into her apartment when her key stopped working one evening.

And I have a picture of me and Henry Rollins. He's got his arm around me, and I'm grinning like a fool. But that has nothing to do with work.

            • About a year ago James Hook came into eat at our restaurant. I wasn't there on the day but apparently none of the girls out front knew it was him and when one of the boys walked out from the kitchen he nearly had kittens at the sight of him!

Also my boyfriend was recently doing a traffic survey thing and the same guy came into the car park. Apparently his girlfriend is a textbook WAG.

              • Won't bore you with the details, but:

                Clint Eastwood (very nice)
                George Kennedy (also great)
Donald Sutherland (laid back and quiet)
Joe Walsh (about what you'd expect)
Andre the Giant (shook his hand with both of mine - still couldn't get all the way around his hand)
Terry Funk (wrestling champion in the 70s)
                Marcia Ball
Several members of the Asylum Street Spankers (a blast)

I wish I'd gotten my picture with the lead singer of Papa Roach when I had the chance. He's a really nice guy, a little goofy, and would do anything for a fan. He's also not afraid to get down to his bus via a freight elevator so loaded he had to climb a mountain of cases to get himself into it.

                      • Oh, hey, that reminds me when Extreme Home Makeover rebuilt the house across the street that got hit by a drunk in an SUV.

Ty is so full of himself, it's shocking the his and my brother's egos could both coexist on the same block. If you watch the show and see him with a hammer or other tool in his hand, those shots on the show are the only time he does any work during the rebuild. The rest of the time, he's off to the side trying to chat up all of the "pretty people" that they bus in from Hollywood to make a fake and attractive crowd with that they can show off for the home audience.

Yeah, I was so unimpressed by the whole production, including it taking them 2-3 weeks, with hammers going 24/7, to actually finish, pushing a "wedding plans" agenda for a couple that has absolutely zero intention of getting married, and for putting a big fake moon in the final shot that they aired on TV when it was the wrong phase entirely for any of the days they were actually there. Oh, and also for putting high-end/high-maintenance electronics in a house full of people who don't have anything more high-tech than cable tv; the projector bulb for their home theater system costs over $1,000 to replace and the wireless home network was totally insecure when they set it up.

I'm also an extra in an episode of CSI: Las Vegas. William Petersen was a little cool, but seemed a fairly decent guy. Marg, Helgenberger, on the other had, was warm, but seemed really... not repressed, but possibly naive and childlike. And, no slight meant, but she also seemed rather less than bright.

Oh, it was Season 4, Episode 5. Fur and Loathing. Scarily enough, even though the portrayal of furry conventions was out of whack, it's galaxies closer to accurate than what they had originally storyboarded. *shudders*

                        • Well, this may count: local NBC newscaster Stacy Engebretson tonight. Probably a couple of Wisconsinites may recognize the name. She's much taller and thinner than I'd expect, after seeing her on TV, and about as personable as any of my nice customers. She has a 5-month-old, so she and hubby bought diapers. I mostly recognize her because I remember Anthony proposing a few years ago at the station on the air & thought it was sweet.

                          • well if you want to call them celebraties :

a lot of the Packer players live in town for at least for the duration of the football seasson. some live here full time.

it is fun to deliver to some of them. a couple of them are just down home real people who REALLY KNOW how to tip (like $20 on a $40 order)

                            • Plenty of book signings...

my first big event was Emeril Lagasse...somewhere I have a pic of him with all the employees that worked that night.

Also, Mario Batali, Giada deLaurentiis (sp?), Nora Roberts (she used to do a signing every spring), Dav Pilkey (the Captain Underpants books).

John Edward...I think I got the "pleasure" of working two of his events... also Sylvia Browne...

My favorite was Robert Kurson (author of Shadow Divers - awesome book, I highly recommend it); we were the first stop on his book tour and the 4 main subjects of the book were there, including John Chatterton and Richie Kohler, who later had a show on the History Channel (? could have been Discovery). They were just all really nice and he did a great talk.

As for actual celebrities just happening in the store...I never saw them myself but Deborah Harry and Queen Latifah have both been sighted (at Store2 and Store1, respectively); also I'm told that Jon Bon Jovi's mom shops in Store2 on occasion.
