Here in the hell that is Green Bay, employees are allowed to wear Packers crap on Sundays during football season. For a price. Which goes towards defraying costs for the Christmas party.

Me, being a passionate Brewers fan, finally got around to asking the owner if I can wear Brewers stuff on a designated day of the week.

I got a big resounding "no."

Along with, "I hate the Brewers. But <coworker> can wear her Cubs shirt."

Ummmm, OK. I may have brought that on myself, with my outspokeness against football in general, and the Packers in particular.

I mentioned that it was discrimination. (I was laughing when I said it.) Boss said, in a rather angry tone, "When you own a business, you can decide on the dress code." ...O...K...

A little while later, I asked Boss if he was serious.

    "About what?"

"Let's start with me wearing Brewers stuff."

Still in an angry tone of voice, Boss told me, "I was serious. Customers might complain. They might be offended."

    *By what?!?!* <---my thought

Boss continued: "They might be offended. I mean, we can't even say 'Happy Easter'...blah blah blah."

What does Easter have to do with anyone wearing Brewers (or any team's) apparel??

I lost what respect I had for him. To give a me shitty excuse, and one that had NOTHING to do with the original question.

My head hurts everytime I think of it.

I wonder if co-owner would let me...?
    I'm bringing disdain back...with a vengeance.

Oh, and your tool box called...you got out again.

That is really lame. People get too invested in sports. They forget it's just a game.

Surely if wearing your stuff might "offend" people then he should ban wearing Packers and similar stuff as well, for the same reason! Ugh he should at least just be honest about why he would make such a stupid rule.
Maybe if co-owner says the same thing or backs up the other owner's reasoning, you can point out that little flaw in their logic

We have a big yearly 3-match football thing between the state I live and one of our neighbours... For most of that month about half the customers are wearing sports jerseys, etc, or make small talk by way of "So, watching the big game eh?? Who are you rooting for eh? *nudge nudge*" /sigh

And I gotta agree with Proctor there, people reeeaaaally do take sport far too seriously.

complain to HR, tell them you are uncomfortable and have been marginialized by the inability to express YOUR sports team preference, and are still forced to see all the packers stuff...

sauce for the goose, sauce for the gander, if you cant wear your team, they shouldnt wear their team.

We have the same problem where I work, although slightly different. Since it's a factory, obviously the dress code is very casual. BUT....would you believe people have complained about Vikings/Bears/Cowboys/other NFL team shirts and jackets? Unbelieveable. Not everyone in Wisconsin loves the Packers and Brett Favre, who by the way, is no longer with the Packers. Get over yourselves.

Thankfully, the twatwaffles who complain don't get very far. As long as the clothing is not low cut, has sleeves, no gaping holes, you can wear it.

I talked to Boss's son...Bossman really does hate the Brewers. As in, Son heard my question and tried to stop his dad before he started foaming at the mouth.

I was sort of half joking about talking to the co-owner; he's only part owner of our store (he has control of the other store). Plus, we have no HR, just Bossman.

Bella, did you ever get the story about WHY he hates the Brewers so much?

                  ...?
at my pizza place they let us wear Packers shirts on home game day and sometimes they let us wear Beerfart (Brewers) shirts on home game days. I got permission (surprizingly enough) to wear a St. Louis baseball Cardinals ball cap (to replace my normal store hat) when the Beerfarts play the Cardinals in Milwaukee. (born and raised in St. Louis and am still a fan when I can catch a game on some distant AM radio station)

No, but he was born/raised in Chicago...

It's the *Brewers*! What's to hate? They sucked (in some people's opinions) for the better part of 26 years!

Maybe he's mad because they sucked less than the Cubbies? Lets face it, the Brewers made it to the World Series in 1982 and the Cubs haven't seen it since 1945.

My boss is a Cubs fan, too (as am I), but the worst anybody that supports a rival team ever gets from him is good natured ribbing.

And does the man even look around to see just how many customers wear Brewers stuff?

Where is my Brewers headband? If I find it, I'm wearing it.

Sorry I had to fix that one for accuracy

On my last ship, Sunday was sports-cap day. It didn't matter what team you supported, you were allowed to wear their sports hat as long as it was in good taste (i.e. no profanity, or booze).

I was tempted to try wearing the Crye Precision MLI ball cap, but figured it would just get me in trouble.
