Well, I guess I'm working at 4:30 AM until maybe 8:30 in the morning. On Thanksgiving. That is, if they are telling us the truth about the "small truck." They like to tell us things...

Then I'll be running my butt home to get the turkey and stuffing together. No Black Friday for me.

One of the nice things about my new company is that they have a couple of "floating" holidays" you can use. They actually suggest to use "Black Friday" for firing off that particular day of.Any company like that makes you really wanna do a good job for them...
You can bet the only thing I'm doing on black friday is going out to eat and that's about it. No malls,no walmarts and no Best Buys for me...

It looks like I'll be working 7a-2p on Black Friday, but I work in a grocery store. It will be D-E-A-D. That'll be fine - I can hang out and do whatever, maybe even get sent home early. I don't really care, I just have to work so I can not worry about working again until I move back from school in mid-December.

The store will be closed on Thanksgiving. What a shame. I really wanted to avoid going to the future in-laws' house. Oh, well. And, like I expected, I'll be working second shift on BF. I'll miss seeing the oddballs waiting outside for our special two days only, no rain checks given sale.

There is now a 97% chance that I have to work BF, because one of my asshat coworkers decided to terminate himself.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. I better get the weekend off.

Since I am currently not working, I get to do whatever I want. YAY!

Black Friday my family is going to a family friend's birthday party where I will finally be able to just sit back, relax, and enjoy a beer. Can't do that in the dorms sadly.

Working Black Friday but only 9 til 8. Have Thanksgiving day off, dinner at my daughter's this year so this old Mom gets a break. (Bfire, kudos to you - I've got fibro, too, and know how very much your cooking for her is appreciated!)

Thanksgiving: Working 10-6 bartending, then have the night off. My only "special" holiday plans for that day are, after work, meeting up with my friend Jesse at our usual Thursday night watering hole. Normally Thursday night is Trivia Night there, but they are not having it Thanksgiving, so Jesse and I are bringing our own Trivial Pursuit board game (not competing for prizes as normal) for us and any of the other regulars who want in on it. Other than the triv, we are going to watch football on their brand new Monster Big Screen, eat tons of food, and drink copious amounts of beer. I thought about cooking some holiday fare for my coworkers the night before, but it would be stretching myself too thin, and I have other cooking plans....see below.*

Black Friday: Working 10-6 bartending, then have the night off...or closing. Not sure which. The other Supervisor asked me if I would close for him Thursday, but as I already have plans, I told him perhaps Friday if he preferred. He said he wants a day off, but I wonder if he is going to take me up on that, as (a) his lukewarm reception to my idea tells me he wanted Thanksgiving off, and (b) since he does the schedule, why didn't he schedule himself a day off? Either way, not doing that much that night, as the next day, Saturday, I work a 7:30 opening shift at the waterfront bar. I volunteered for that (yes, me, Mr. Not Morning) so I would be off work in plenty of time for the 6:00 pm kickoff of The Most Important Football Game of the Year, ARIZONA STATE at arizona. Okay, maybe not to YOU, but to me it really IS The Most Important Football Game of the Year!

Thanksgiving and Black Friday are not huge days down here, as we are not only a tourist destination, but also have no malls per se. Since so many people want to be home for the holidays, we don't have that many tourists. Since the nearest mall is 150 miles away in Miami, many locals actually go up there to shop that day. These days are traditionally slow on my Tropical Tourist Trap Island.

*Instead of cooking for my coworkers, many of whom either have other dinner plans or not American so don't really care that much about Thanksgiving (though I am sure they would enjoy the goodies), I decided to cook for my friend M and his girlfriend/also my friend D, once D gets back from spending her Thanksgiving out west with her family. I figured I would cook them a whiskey honey glazed ham (have I mentioned I HATE turkey?), garlic red-skinned mashed potatos with country gravy, tropical cranberry sauce, and stuffing. I am cooking everything except the gravy (out of a jar) and the stuffing (out of a box), as the stuff I plan to use is both easy to make and quite good, unless someone here has suggestions or recipes for these items (hint hint). (Hard to make gravy from scratch when you are not cooking a turkey, after all.) I am not making dessert, as I don't bake, but I figure either my friends can take care of that end or I can just buy an apple pie or something. (I am very un-American, as I don't like either pumpkin or pecan pie.)

As for the other holidays? I will be having New Year's Eve and New Year's Day off. How do I expect to get these days off? That is the same question that the other Supervisor put to me when I stated my intentions about those holidays. The conversation went something like this:

JESTER: Since you are doing the schedule, I think I should tell you I will be taking off on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
SCHEDULING SUPERVISOR: Okay...but just what makes you think I am going to give you those days off just because you ask for them?
JESTER: Because I am guessing I am the only person on staff who is volunteering to work a double on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
SCHEDULING SUPERVISOR: (pause)Right. Well, I guess you just got New Year's Eve and New Year's Day off.
                    JESTER:
                    It never fails.

For Thanksgiving, I am fixing a turkey for the first time. /call Dad How do you cook a turkey? Other than that I'll probably just stay home with the BF and relax. On Black Friday, I have to work from 6AM to 5PM which will make for a really long day, but at least I'll get off at a decent hour. According to the manager the day goes by really fast. At least I don't have to worry about running a register or selling anything. I'll just be helping the guys put stuff in peoples' cars.

On my current schedule, I have Wednesdays and Thursdays off, so I'm done until Friday. On Thanksgiving, I'll probably go to my brother's house for the day. I work on Friday, but with any luck, everybody will be out shopping and too busy to call the cable company.

Christmas looks good... according to my schedule, I'm off from the 22nd until the evening of the 26th. Which is right about the time I get into the spirit of the time. Should be fun.

                            Black Friday

I thankfully have Fridays off, so i don't work Black Friday(i am working thursday for double time and a half).

What will I be doing? I am going NOWHERE! Not leaving my home for no reason whatsoever. Turning the phone off, and playing on the computer, feeling sorry for anyone who works that day.

To anyone who works Black Friday, you have my sympathies.

Just one thing: Better you than me.

I will be hiding under a rock at home and saying a novena for my sister, who's a garden center manager at the Big Wal. That means she's gonna be in charge of all the Christmas decorations. Poor girl...

I am going to friends for thanksgiving, and since I quit rking I swore I would never ever leave the house again on black friday, I am going to get up at 6:30 make my son's morning bottle and crawl into bed with him, I'll go back to sleep and he'll play until he falls asleep next to me.
