The store manager pulled me aside Friday and told me that I should be assigned to a new department sometime late this week. I certainly hope so, not a day goes by now that I dont' count my blessings I won't have to put up with pharmacy aggravation for much longer.
For those of you who may not know, Wal Mart recently announced they were going to slash the prices of selected generic medications to a flat cash price and offereing 3 month supplies instead of the retail standard 30.
I.E. - 90 tablets of a medication for $10
This is a significant cost reduction, most people have insruances that will only pay for 30 days of somthing at a time, and have copays of more than $5, meaning the cash price is cheaper.
Well, not wanting to play chicken with the 900 pound gorilla of retail, my company followed suit a week later and rolled out thier own formulary of 90 day supply drugs for a flat cash rate.
Now, we ran newspaper ads and made it clear
- Only Generics apply
- Only selected generics apply (still, over 300 are on the list)
- No controls/narcotics (didn't stop a guy who was pretty bombed out of his head from calling me on the phone and trying for 90 days worth of Oxycontin, "A" for effort thier pal, but Moxie only gets you so far)
- In some cases, it's still cheaper to use your insurance, we bill it both ways and go with whatever is the cheaper deal.
Well, enter a customer last night
Me - Okay, total is $12.50
Him - That's wrong
Me - Excuse me?
Him - Aren't you guys matching Wal Mart?
Me - For selected drugs on the formulary list *looks at his* I don't think this is one that is on it. But let me get the list.
I pick up a copy of our formulary, literally hot off the printer, and put it on the counter in front of him.
Me - Unfortunately, your medication isn't on the list. (I even point to the gap where it would be if it was)
Him - That's the wrong answer
Me - .... (thinking: Whatever dude, it's the truth, I'm not messing around here)
Him - That's definately the wrong answer, Paul (what, you think reading my nametag changes things? I'm tired of this shit so I say nothing
Me - Cash or credit?
Him - Credit
Me - *transaction approved* thank you
Him - Wrong answer *walks off*
What? No parting gifts? No copy of the home game? Surely I had to win somthing for that wrong answer....
Glad I'm getting out of here
