  • I got someone fired.

and now i feel seriously guilty.

Every month our department have a meeting where our Ops managers and reps from each team get together and discuss any problems and how they can be fixed.

One that came up last time was the staff toilets, they were being cleaned at 12, 4 and 6. the three peak times of day when they're in use. I pointed out that i had seen one particular cleaner standing in the abthroom, with it blocked off so no-one can get in, texting rather than working, by the time i came back from the alternative loos, she was still there.

Found out in yesterdays meeting she was let go, apparently the cleaning manager said "I know exactly who that is".

    I feel bad

As much as I hate to say this, the co-worker in question is being paid to work, not to slack off and txt her friends, they can txt as much as they like when their work is done, or on their meal break. I'm assuming this was a repeated occurance if they were let go over it...

I agree with all the others here. Anyone who'd rather spend their time at work doing nothing should be replaced by someone who wants the job.

You didn't get anybody fired. The lazy texting person got themselves fired.

What LingualMonkey said. It's not called "happy fun time", it's work!

That's what always gets my panties in a bind at my job. We have such worthless lazy bosses who don't care to do their jobs and supervise and people do nothing but fuck off every. single. shift. And I have friends who would do anything to have a decent paying job with benefits...or even a JOB. Period.

People can give themselves enough rope to (proverbially) hang themselves with. That's all I have to say.

You're in the UK, so you know it's bloody hard to fire someone over here without documentation. I'd wager that there was already plenty of evidence and you just added to that. It's likely she was on the way out anyway.

Do you really want to work with someone who can't be bothered to do her job?

I got an old boss fired, I still feel bad about it but she really did something bad and diserved it.

I bet that the girl you got fired already had some strikes agianst her anyway.

and they already knew what she was like, maybe even talked to her about it already...

                              My thoughts exactly.
Look at it this way: even if you had named names when you mentioned the texter, one offence wouldn't have had them fired. The fact that they could tell who the texter was just from mentioning the behaviour means that they had already seen it happen enough for it to have gone past a one-off or even a sometimes thing and was something that they were now watching out for as a regular act.

Apologies for the lengthy run-on sentence, my brain is shutting down for the night lol =x
