  • Today's moment of stupidity is brought to you by the letters G and O

    G.O.=general office, aka corporate.

    Lately one of the things that's been frosting my pop-tarts is that whoever is taking ad signs down on Saturday nights is also taking down the singholders on the endstands. Therefore, when I put the new signs up, I always have to go retrieve the signholders, get some of the little clippy thingies that hold the signholder to the shelf, and replace the signholder on the endstand.

    I complained about this to the manager this morning, and I found out apparently there's an unwritten corporate rule which requires the signholders to be taken down along with the signs. The reason being that an item on an endstand which was on sale this week isn't necessarily going to be on sale next week.

    Here's the problem: items on sale this week almost always ARE on sale the next week. Our ads are so predictable it's a joke. I can almost without fail guess which items are going to be on sale every week: picture frames, candles, home decor tchotchkies, floor and table lamps, pillows, blankets, every vacuum cleaner, crock pot, George Foreman grill, blender, coffeemaker, and almost every single furniture item. And almost everything on an endstand that was on sale last week WILL be on sale next week.

    Therefore, wouldn't it make sense to leave the signholders up so we can just replace the old sign with the new one instead of having to hunt for signholders to put up again? Oh yeah, how stupid of me to forget, if it makes sense yada yada yada.

    I swear our policies must be dreamed up by suits playing "can you top this?" after a long night at the bars.

    If some of the sale items are on endcaps, and they're not on sale for another week, wouldn't it make some sort of sense to have what IS on sale on an endcap, so the signholders can stay in place?

    And IPF, always remember, if it makes sense, it's not allowed.

      Thing is, the stuff on sale is already on the endcaps.

      For example, we always have endcaps of picture frames and lamps, and those are always on sale. Candles too.
