Last Friday at work, I began coming down with something...I could feel it in my throat and as the days wore on, it got worse. Now I can barely talk and it's been 3 days since I've actually worked.

On Sunday I was scheduled to come in at 2PM but got there at 1:30. I spoke with the closing manager, M, and told her hjow my back was messing up, showed her my swollen sinuses, even showed her how my glands were swollen as well. And to top that off, I could barely talk.

And all she did was nod and say, "Okay."

Then I'd asked her if she really needed me to come in still because I was worried about infecting customers and crew members.

"I still need you to come in because T called out and S moght not be coming in so I need you everywhere tonight. And if you 'call out' now, I'll write you up."

    WTF?!

So when I clock in she gives me a drawer up front and I hve to repeat myself to customers numerous times because my voice was bad. I barely had time to get some hot tea or something to soothe my throat.

I was scheduled to close that night even though were closing a little earlier as it was New Year's Eve. One of the crew members, D is scheduled to get off at 7 and offered to work my hours and me work his so I could go home. He kept telling to go home and rest and I had no business working that night because I could barely talk. And he's been calling me almost every day to make sure I was okay. I owe him a lot.

When I told him how M was gonna write me up if I had left, he said "@#$! her! You don't need to work tonight."

I was supposed to come in today but called out because now I'm having a coughing fit and my voice is still horrible. It takes a lot of energy to try and talk.

I have a feeling I might get written up for the two days I'd called ou but I can't work if I'm sick. I don't call out unless I feel I REALLY cannot work.

Personally, Burger King can kiss my ass.

That's why I usually like to joke about getting for Christmas a nice stocking full of multi-colored antibiotic pills. I remember getting a sore throat so bad my throat was halway closed up it was swollen so bad. My mother-in-law had some Amoxicillin in liquid suspension leftover when she was sick and all it took was one dose and the swelling in my throat started going down. Three days it was all gone. That was a hundred bucks I just saved in visiting the doctor.

BTW If any store managers are reading this: Please dont force your sick workers to come in and give me their germs when I shop in your stores. Are YOU gonna give me a hundred bucks to cover the doctor's visit and cost of medicine??? Wouldn't it actually save companies money in the long run if we didnt have all these germs spreading throughout the population forcing more people to miss work???

Dude, if you're sick, they have NO business making you work around food. Suppose a customer gets sick cause of that?

There is something going around big-time. I was sick about a week or so before Christmas, and my daughter was sick, my husband just got over something, as did my mom, and my inlaws (mother and father in law as well as sister and brother in law) are all sick. You have my sympathy.

And they wonder how things spread so quickly! Jerky managers making sick employees work. The CDC tells you to stay home if you get sick so you don't infect everyone else, but God forbid these piss ant managers pay any attention.

I've been making sure we all wash our hands all the time and we all got flu shots, taking every precaution because being sick just sucks!

There were these two younger girls that came in that night who ordered frozen drinks and other things and after I handed them their drinks, I'd told them to have a hgappy new year and how I was stuck working sounding the way I did.

They almost cried. I kid you not. they said something like

"OMG! I can't believe they're making you nwork like that, it's horrible and you sound terrible! Aww! I hope you feel better."

Then their eyes got all watery and stuff and they left. I told every customer who I thought would listen my story and all of them were like. WTF?! And they proceeded to tell me what goes around comes around and that karma would come around and get her for making me work like that. My best friend almost came in to cuss her out.

Now my mom who is the Senior Assistant Manager told me to just do my best and if I couldn't do anymore to go home. The next day, we were having lunch and she told me that if she were me and M said that to her she would say "Write me up then," and leave. Mum's friend was also with us and didn't know the whole story so we told her and mom was like "And of course M didn't care."

And Powerboy, I hope you feel better too. -hugs-

It's nice to know I have backup. My cough is really bad still and I'm not even sure I can work tomorrow but I'm gonna have to "Make it work," as they say. And God forbid that bitch is closing. I'm going to give her hell.

While I understand that it's frustrating to be short-staffed because half of your employees are sick, you just don't make sick people work in food preparation! Basic common sense!

There's a nasty Cold From Hell going around out here in Phoenix. Apparently some winter visitors brought it with them (at least, that's what my doctor said). I've been sick for five weeks! I thought I was getting better, then wham, it got worse again. Now it's developed into bronchitis.

Max, if you don't get better soon, please go see your doctor. You do not want it to develop into something worse. I wouldn't wish this crud on my worst enemy (or sucky customer!).
I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.

one of my co-workers was out sick yesterday came back today, I of course being the "den mother" of all the single menfolk at work(I'm not sure how I got appointed though...)ask what's wrong, the following ensues....
BK-Me (who is lacking in the tonsil department, allergic to most antibiotics, and has had Rheumatic fever*)
                    K-sick cow-irker

                    BK-"glad you're back-what happened?"
                    K-"oh I have Strep"
BK- "are you taking anything, have you seen a Doctor?"
K-"nah I haven't gotten anyone else sick I've had it since friday"
BK-double -"one of us isn't staying here-you're contagious"
                    K-"I'm taking cough drops"
BK-"yeah nothing personal kid but I enjoy living-last time I had strep I was in the hospital for a week-my heart can't take it."
                    K-"Strep can't affect your heart, my mom's a nurse, I should know."
BK-"Um, so is mine, ask yours what causes Rheumatic fever."
K-"It's impossible for something in your throat to affect your heart."
                    BK-"whatever I need to see a manager"

to shorten up-manager sent him home(without an occurance), with the stipulation that "if you don't have a Doctor's note, you can't come back-we can't lose BK"

*Rheumatic fever affects the joints and heart, causing symptoms similar to arthritis as well as heart problems
Honestly.... the image of that in my head made me go "AWESOME!"..... and then I remembered I am terribly strange.-Red dazes

Egads. Would your coworker look at you sideways if you told him that the same virus responsible for chickenpox was also responsible for rickets, or that poor dental hygeine and oral piercings are linked to heart valve infections?

-sigh- Today I'm scheduled to come in at 4PM and I'm actually feeling better. Even though I enjoyed all the extra sleep I got, it's time to return. And since I'm fit enough to leave the house for an extended period of time, I can FINALLY drop off my applications for other employment. I have this weird feeling that I'm going to be coughing all over the place and I really don't want to work drive-thru tonight considering I have to be back at 11AM tomorrow.

My voice is still a little off tone but it sounds a little better than it did a few days ago. I'm going to sound like Darth Vador on a good day if I have to take orders tonight.

                        Wish me luck!

Max, I can sympathize with you on this.... last Saturday, I had the stomach virus so I called in..... they told me to take something and come to work!

Luckily, they called me back and told me not to worry.....

Just to let you know, suspensions like Amoxicillin expire 10 days after they're mixed. You probably wouldn't want to try that again.

And also, your MIL will start getting resistance to antibiotics if she doesn't finish her prescribed courses of drugs. Even if someone feels 100% better after just a few days on the ABs, they really do need to finish the whole course.
