Good. That method means that either the person consents to the recording, or you hang up, and the whole problem is solved. You don't have to worry about that then.
I know how frustrating that must to lose those calls. I'm sorry. I just don't want to see someone get nailed for that. Especially not someone who manages to write well enough that I tend to look for and read their stories (even if I don't comment on them very much).
I'm selfish that way. I'd miss your stories. Don't want that.

Now for the other issue: From the way you're talking, your health is being affected by your job, and not in a good way.Quoth Whiskey View PostI'm sure I'll have plenty to write about post-shift.ArmageddonWork starts in a half hour.
I hate to give this advice, because I know how hard it is to follow (and I have a hard time following it myself), but this is more important than getting rid of those recordings.
You must get out of that environment. You must do so as soon as humanly possible. And you must evaluate whether or not you should quit without having another job or even money for your bills. The thing about this choice is that it's very very hard to make, especially since, if you're at the point where you have to evaluate it, you're usually better off quitting the job and trying to do whatever you can to recover your health and sanity.
Not always, but usually. Think carefully about it, please.

Monday I might have someone I can talk to. My "advocate" knew this job would wreck me, she doesn't care. I told everyone that I can't do this from previous experience. Unless something magically changes I can't take this. I'm sitting in the breakroom feeling like i want to puke and shaking from nerves.Thou shalt not take the name of thy goddess Whiskey in vain.

I can't recommend you quit. I don't know enough of your situation, your finances, your area, your legalities (for medical/etc), to be able to tell you what to do.
What I can do is listen. I'll do that much. I do know that, from what I've read in this thread alone, I have a hard time seeing why you should stay. So, try a little role playing exercise.
Instead of giving me reasons to tell you to quit (believe me, this thread is one big reason for that), I want you to do something different: Tell me why you should not quit. Make me believe that your current job is precisely where you need to be.
If you come up with enough reasons to persuade me, you just might find enough in there for yourself to help you make it through another day. As a bonus, that's all you have to do on any given day: Make it through one more day.
Once you can do that, well, the rest is negotiable

I was on my way to work, at the stoplight before my job and the car in front of me had a bumper sticker that said "Jasper says relax"
I muttered "Good idea, jasper" and thought about it. I forgave my other TL for the physical assault debacle. At the end of my shift, he asked me what the hell happened to me and I told him.
I lost it, completely. I told him if he wanted me to come in and act like a fucking lunatic, i could have someone drop me off next time. He said no. I told him to let Store Manager know if I'm calling out because i'm "sick" she needs to just drop it and find someone. I've called out twice in 4 (almost five) months. Once I was physically sick to the point I couldn't control when it happened (and it happened often) and last night. I'm going to have both leads, if I can, talk to Store Manager and tell her to just leave me alone if I call out. I don't call out for bullshit.
They pay me (most of the time).Tell me why you should not quit.
I like 3 people who work there.

Quoth Rantsylvania 6-5000 View PostThe cutting of hours is the only thing I can see them being able to do legally. The rest all sounds like hostile work environment, and I thought that was against federal law.
no it's not even "defined" they are working on a few new laws to cover it currently-due to a case of workplace bullying that led to suicide. This is another example of those funny "laws" that everyone just knows are true, because "they heard it from someone"
I am not a lawyer but mental illnesses are covered under the Americans with disabilities act
However this is a double-edged sword-as in if you had the diagnosis when you applied and did not note it on the application or during the interview-you are usually not covered(I always disclose my migraines-I was burned once), and can be terminated for lying on your application.Quoth the americans with disabilities act of 1990The term "disability" means, with respect to an individual
(A) a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities of such individual; a record of such an impairment.
major life activities include, but are not limited to, caring for oneself, performing manual tasks, seeing, hearing, eating, sleeping, walking, standing, lifting, bending, speaking, breathing, learning, reading, concentrating, thinking, communicating, and working.
An impairment that is episodic or in remission is a disability if it would substantially limit a major life activity when activeHonestly.... the image of that in my head made me go "AWESOME!"..... and then I remembered I am terribly strange.-Red dazes

Whiskey,
I hope you can find solace sometime soon. Have you chatted with your psych doc lately? Have you had medicine levels done, and made sure you're kosher in your brain?
And besides that, hugs. And chocolate.
Don't stay there for much longer, look at it as a stepping stone. And call your advocate asap; can you get a different one?
Hugs and kitty bonks.

They're legally not allowed to ask about any diagnosis I may or may not have. I did say I could do my job with or without reasonable accommodation. Thats all they're allowed to ask. Fully agree with all of the above. Hell, I've wondered sometimes if my old store has contributed to some of my anxiety. I get the feeling it might have, since my main worries tend to stem around being called in-if I don't respond, I end up worrying if my hours will be cut/I get treated like shit/I get fired etc.Quoth Rantsylvania 6-5000 View PostA psychological disorder has nothing to do with it. Nobody has to put up with someone throwing things at them. If you don't have to accept being assaulted off the clock, you shouldn't have to on the clock either.
If workplaces treated their employees better, some mental illnesses might not even happen! I know my employers have ruined me!
If I were ever in a situation where I was assaulted at work like that, I would not rely on my employer to protect me. I would want to call the cops, fully aware that I might be fired, and would have a hell of a fight on my hands. You might want to ask your lawyer-friend if it would be illegal for them to fire you for that, just in case this happens again. Meanwhile, I hope you can fight them on this, because this is just WRONG!
Not necessarily. If they're treating you differently-unless it's a medical requirement or a psychological requirement-it doesn't matter if you have a disability of some description, NOBODY deserves to be given hostile treatment. EVER.Quoth Whiskey View PostThis presumes, in order to be hostile, they would have to KNOW about my mental illness. they know i'm crazy (everyone on grave is crazy!), but have no documentation of illness.
Even if you are desperate for hours.
Even if you need the experience.
Even if you are taking this job because it's the only place that'll cater to your needs.

So if you're a white heterosexual male, which is about the most unprotected class known, your employer can do whatever they want to you and you have to take it? I don't think so.

I don't think anyone would call what happened "severe" and it hasn't recurred. I still havent got paid the wages I'm owed. I'm filing a wage claim this week. There are no Federal "hostile work environment laws" or "hostile workplace laws" named as such. Creating a hostile workplace is prohibited under certain Federal discrimination laws (listed below).
Subsequently, to be illegal under one of the laws in the eyes of the courts, a hostile work environment typically must be caused by discriminatory workplace harassment based on race, color, religion, national origin, disability, genetics, age or sex. Additionally, the harassment typically must be severe, recurring and pervasive.Thou shalt not take the name of thy goddess Whiskey in vain.
