The store is on the first floor of a small apartment building, along with three other storefronts (we're on the corner). The business next door is owned by the landlord's wife, and during the summer she frequently babysits her grandkids. The granddaughter is far and away the cutest thing around.
She's THREE (ALMOST FOUR!), otherwise known as THIS MANY FINGERS, and always has on a different outfit, most of which are sent by her maternal grandparents from Japan or brought back from St. Martin by her paternal grandparents. Her hair is always done up in these little poofs of fluffy curls, perfect little ringlets and colourful ties. She always has a smile on her face, and if the store's mail was left at her grandmother's, she skips over, rings my doorbell, and happily hands me the pile of envelopes.
Today, she was with her mom, and was skipping down the street. She stopped short to sniff one of my flowers, then saw me through the window and started waving till I came out to say hello. Then she insisted on giving me a hug.
I LOVE THIS KID!
