Thanksgiving sure don't feel like a holiday to me anymore. Not when we can do over $50,000 in sales on a day where we close four hours early.
Still, I guess people have to do something while the turkey's in the oven.
we dont even make 50,000 a week :P
anyways, we were still getting BTS shipments up to last week. halloween and fall decor will be coming soon, some stores already started getting it. ohhh christmas.
the music sucks...and im sure BVS will have lovely commercials like they do all year round (their commercials SUCK)
theres an early xmas set up, im not sure the date though
i love walking in the day after halloween to see the store set up fully for christmas, happy birthday to me! :P

I never knew how happy paint could make people until I started selling it.
Several of the Kansas City radio stations do 24/7 Christmas music over the holidays. Last year, one of them started up on the AFTERNOON OF HALLOWEEN!!
I don't listen to that station anymore.
there are 2 (COUNT EM TWO) radio stations in my very small market that go 24/7 Christmas music on Black Friday. Thank GODS I do NOT work in the gas station anymore cause after a week of a VERY SHORT PLAYLIST I was ready to bring out the machette and start swingin

I agree, we were setting back to school at the beginning of July.
We have got our first load of Christmas toys up! The huge ones like the walking dolls and the Spongebob plushies, they are currently sitting up on the top shelf of the store next to pharmacy.
I looked up, stopped dead in my tracks and MOANED "oh no".
By the end of August/beginning of September, as harvest stuff moves, we'll clear a section for Christmas candles and such and set them up.
On a side note, the harvest stuff is quite impressive this year, there's a really pretty leaf tealight holder I want, as well as a glass oil burner and a palm sized orange tealight. However, manager S1 broke the only green tealight leaf we had.

School gets out here, mid June. We started getting BTS stuff that week, but it didn't go out for like ...two whole weeks. Bah. I wish that corporate would let places with later start times put stuff out later. The only reason we're (that is, you know...me and my children) even thinking about school supplies right now is that it's the tax free weekend. School doesn't start until day after Labor Day (which is the first Monday in September).
We put out our first Halloween merchandise around July 1. It was just flags and wall stuff, but still. First full aisle of the Halloween stuff went out either last week or the week before (the weeks are all blending together in this, the summer of suck, just ask my kids). But generic fall floral has been in the store and out for weeks.
Apparently, we started getting Christmas merchandise in July as well, I just wasn't there for those truck days. We put out our first bit of Christmas stuff yesterday (a sidecounter of it. Bah).
Somehow, when the fall floral was being done and the Christmas stuff was being done, I managed to be working on some other freight, and didn't have to hear "Halloween ALREADY??!!!" or "CHRISTMAS ALREADY?!!". So, that's a plus.
As much as they bitch, I hear more from the people who can't wait til we're all set up for fall and winter crafting. We've got a lady who calls three times a week to see if we've got the craft pumpkins. We've got another few customers who want to know when we're getting the ceramic & glass ornaments to decorate...etc. So, bah.
It's one of those vicious things, right? People wouldn't buy it if it weren't out. It wouldn't be out if people wouldn't buy it... right? Heh.
Though, the thought of yet another Christmas in retail almost makes me want to weep. Or drink.

Actually with craft stores it makes sense. No one wants Christmas craft supplies in December, Christmas craft supplies are used to make things for Christmas. (That being said, I do like my egg dyes the weeks before Easter). Ironically, back when Lewiscraft was around they were later than some retail stores in putting Christmas stuff out. Nothing too late, the other stores were just really jumping the gun.
Schools around here start on the 23rd (2 weeks before labor day). College and schools where I'm from start the 30th (a week before labor day).
I don't know what's wrong with my area, but I've been unable to find a calendar for school, even with tax free weekend next weekend. At least I haven't noticed any Christmas stuff yet.
I've seen people at Sam's Club buy Halloween candy!! AND you can buy winter clothes! Winter clothing when the temp outside is above 90!!
You can get the best deals when you buy off-season. <shrug>
My car was bought after the new model years hit the car lots. Amazing how low you can bargain for last year's model just before the tax man is due.

That's how mom got her car at a massive discount (her years-long tradition of making holiday baked goods for the mechanics probably doesn't hurt either )
I came home last week with a bag of candy corn and mom went off on a small tirade ("It's not even Lughnasadh yet!"...I didn't know the gods would smite me for wanting mellocreme yumminess early).
