  • Today's the Day

Today is my first shift at the pub in 16 days. I am really not looking forward to returning to those kind of hours. I have actually adjusted myself into a decent sleeping pattern during my time off, falling asleep at the 11pm/Midnight mark and waking up at 8am, rather than going to sleep at 5am and waking up at 2pm.

So no doubt I will be greeted with the latest "gossip" i.e: the staff complaining about how badly they have been treated while I have been away, the latest scandal, who didn't show up for what shift, ect ect.

But hey, today is also the day I tell them I have found a new job

Well I just worked my first shift, and it was the busiest kitchen shift I have ever worked in the whole five years I have been working in the pub. I am not kidding

And for once, it was no ones fault! We had the correct amount of staff on, and Boss came in and helped. Since the schools finished for the summer, the place has been getting busier and busier. By the end of the night, the kitchen was upside down. We also had a couple of accidents. There was an oil spillage and a co-worker dropped two dozen eggs all over the floor, so that was an effort to clean up!

I actually had to leave before the kitchen was finished to get the very last bus home, otherwise I would have to get a taxi. Just before I left, Boss cornered me...

I only told one co-worker that I had found more work, and he told a few others (I didn't actually tell him not to tell anyone) so word got around, and she wanted to know if it was true that I was going full time at the school. I simply told her yes, but perhaps it was better we discussed it when we hadn't had such a shitty night. She agreed.

Nothing makes you look forward to leaving a job more than working a horrible shift!

Have they realized yet that their crappy behavior has driven you to leave?
