  • They Stole My Last Day...

For those uninitiated, I gave my two week notice about a week and a half ago as I start a new job on Monday. The weekend immediately following my two week notice was not very friendly to me, as my left knee went horribly out of sorts (due to standing on poorly placed mats behind the front register) to the point that standing on it caused me to start to pass out and insomnia that resulted in my inability to function as a human being let alone a service employee (:P). I called out on Friday due to the knee. Saturday, I was told that my shift had been covered due to my call-out. Yeah, that kinda sucked, but I got to spend the day with my fiancee instead. Sunday, I was off. Monday, I can't move and call out. Tuesday, I'm off. I know, from their perspective, that's kinda fishy. But, no one says word one to me on Wednesday. Or Thursday. Schedule's not ready on Thursday, so I've got to stop in on Friday for it after I'm done with my shift at another store. Friday, I'm at the other store talking about what I was planning on doing with my last day — standing up for retail employees and confronting rude customers. After my shift, I drive out to my store to find out...

That the store management wouldn't let the pharmacy manager put me on the schedule for my last week.

Now, I know I should be pissed off by this, but I'm not. I had seven unused vacation days. They will be paying me for them. So, I basically just got a week's vacation between jobs.

I've been using the time quite productively by boosting my Gamerscore.

Regrettably, that's not unusual. Some places won't let you work in a cash-handling position in your last couple of weeks, others just don't want you anywhere you can do damage. Sucks, but there's plenty of people who have taken too much advantage of their last weeks for them to do otherwise :/

That sucks. I'm in a similar position at my job. I apparently cannot be trusted to not sabotage things with my access (even if I'm leaving voluntarily...), so they day I give my boss my 2 weeks notice is my last day of work.

I have a friend who recently got a better job, and when he went to give his (totally not required) two weeks notice at his old job the told him they "didn't do two weeks notice" and not to bother to come in again. Right before the busiest day of the year. They called him the night before begging him to come in and work one last shift, he, naturally, told them to shove it.

Of course, when the prospective employers at his new job said "you're hired" what they meant was "you made it to the final round of interviews, now you get to race (literally) ten other people to see who gets the job." He was still glad to quit the other place, though.
