  • The assholes at corporate (language)

They have decided that is in the best interest of the company that they close down 25 stores in 5 states, they have stated that even though the stores in question have brought in alot of money it's just not enough to keep them open. So what they have decided to do is to transfer a handful of managers and fire everyone else, I know that I have no control over the situation but it seems just so unfair and shity. Now while you're reading this you might be thinking when are they doing this, when did you find this out? My department manager (the only manager in the store I consider my boss) told me when I went in yesterday, when he told me it was like a punch in the chest. As for when this is going to be taking place? TODAY! They are doing this shit today. I thank god that my store wasn't on the list, but that list could change and I'm pissed off and nervous. Fucking hate corporate.

I agree. Corporate does some pretty shitty stupid things that make no sense only to remove it when they realize it dont work. For example: corporate thought it was a "wonderful" idea to have its "slaves" look into customer baskets and ask what they are planning to have for dinner and have its slaves say what will go great with it. It pissed alot of customers off and finally corporate stopped doing that. They also thought it was brilliant to organize everything which wouldnt be a problem....however we only had a few hours to get it all done in plus WE had to supply the binders to organize paperwork in with OUR OWN money. And we had to drop whatever we were doing to take care of our normal tasks. Finally corporate realized that we were taking binders from the shelf and havingt the store pay for it so we could organize paperwork and that we were behind in our work. It was too "costly"as they put it.
NEVER underestimate the stupidity of the customer

When will Corporate get a $#&$%# clue?

I've been here long enough to know the answer to that...

With things the way they are in the world right now there is a lot of this going on. It all boils down to basic math.. If you have 25 stores that arent making enough to support themselves then they have to go. When the economy was better the good stores made enough money to offset the bad stores until you could hopefully resolve the situation.

How many stores do they have left? If this was a drop in the bucket then I wouldn't worry about it but if this was half their stores it would probably be a good time to start looking for something else before the other shoe falls.

          I'm half and half.

Nearly all of our stores are being renovated. The new stores are a lot easier to navigate, less frustrating, look more pleasing and have SELF SERVE CHECKOUTS.

However, corporate refuses to upgrade our store despite us losing out to a nearby store when THEY opened up.

They'll probably do something stupid like shutting down the only private office-supply store in a city with two universities and a college. You know, the most profitable store that has a practical monopoly. (Yes, we can go to the city right next to us, which is close enough that there is no distinction between the two, but this was the only one walking distance from campus. And the on-campus ones always cost more, and have limited selection).

I'm gonna just take a guess and say that happened to you. Am I right?

I fortunately don't work there. We were all wondering how it could go out-of-business, and then my sister-in-law said that she had talked to the workers. The chain needed to close a store, so they picked that one. There's a location out in the industrial park (the bus service there is horrible, because it's really set up just for commuters), and there's one a city over. But this one was doing quite well, thank-you-very-much.
