I'm in Nova Scotia. Obsessively watching the NOAA satellite feeds about every 10 minutes. It's still a tossup as to whether it's going to hit the western tip of NS squarely or get sucked up the Bay of Fundy and stomp all over NB. Fortunately I'm in central NS, but there's still a major rainfall warning for my area, not to mention tropical storm winds. I have to dismount my bedroom A/C this afternoon and sleeping tonight is going to be misery because it's still hot and humid as Panama up here.
Also a Bluenoser, but in Northern NS. I worked today at the grocery store, and it was nuts. Bottled water was flying off the shelves as fast as the grocery dept. dudes could fill it and D batteries ran out yesterday. Hot people, frayed tempers. What fun!

Also, when big wind storms with chance of power outage are forecast, why on earth do people run out and buy lots and lots of perishables, especially meat? It is a mystery.

I am just po'd that this is the first year in ages we have managed to grow massive beautiful sunflowers that are just starting to bloom, and they may be blown over.

    Damn you, Earl!!!

I wonder that as well. It doesn't look like we'll get much out of the ordinary here; I had to run to the store for some normal stuffage and you'd have thought they were forecasting another Storm Of The Century.

We ended up just getting wind and rain. Then the sun came out mid-afternoon. I drank a lot and listened to my brother call Earl a bitch. Good times though a lot of people feel stupid for making a bigger deal out of it than necessary. I feel a little dumb myself but I really didn't know what was gonna happen. I do feel for North Carolina though.

Bloody hurricanes. Pardon me, it's been 'downgraded' to a tropical storm now. Windy as hell but it'll get worse before it's done, I'm watching the feed. Raining like the bejeezus, though, which is good because my well was on the verge of drying up yesterday anyway.

I went up to Sobeys yesterday for some extra gatorade and pizza fixin's, and as I expected there were people charging around with overloaded carts, and so many people had ice cream and piles of meat. I don't get it. If you're expecting an extended power outage, why in the blue hells are you buying stuff that will spoil almost immediately??? Juan really traumatized us, but then again the eye of it went right over this part of NS and you can still see big swathes of downed trees.

So sorry about your sunflowers. They're so photogenic, and make great bird feeders. Bloody hurricanes.

I've experienced earthquakes, blizzards and hurricanes now, and I'm not sure which one scares me more. Anyone in the UK got a spare room with A/C? And the patience to listen to a very unhappy Canadian vent about it in language that really can't be printed?
Spare room, sure. A/C - not needed. We're not overly hot here right now - more humid (makes it feel warmer), but it's bearable.

I worked when Earl hit. We all just kinda stared... We've seen worse from nor'easters than from Earl, so why were we so worried...?
