  • Holiday weekend ruined - So frustrated!

So last Tuesday this weeks schedule goes up and as luck would have it I get Monday (Labor Day) off. Sweet! Since my wife is off that day too that works out great since it's not very common we get a day off to share. We started discussing what we could do, we were very much in the mood for something outdoorsy due to the anticipated great weather we were to have for the holiday.

So everything was looking great...until today when my assistant manager notified me my company had decided to give store managers an extra day off (with pay) this coming week and since my manager (who was originally scheduled to work Monday) would have Monday off, I'd have to come in to work on the holiday (and unfortunately there's no bonus pay for holidays in this state). The assistant manager has family visiting from California this weekend and already had scheduled it off.

So now my day off has been taken from me and there's no way to get it back since we have to have an opener and closer (as not only are we open, they weren't even nice enough to let us run shorter hours) and with both managers off myself and one other keyholder are the only ones available to do it.

As upset as I was I can only imagine how much more incredibly pissed I would been had my wife and I say, paid for some concert or show tickets for that day that we now could not use or arranged a lunch BBQ with friends that we now could not go to.

I'm still hoping to come up with something we can do on Monday night but it's not quite the same. What a kick in the nuts.

Why couldn't you say no? "Sorry, but I've made plans since the schedule said I had the day off. If I hadn't, of course I'd come to work anyway."

Isn't today Sunday, the day right before Labor Day? The couldn't give you just a wee bit more notice? Then your manager should take a different day of the week off. Not only was this poor planning on corporate, but your manager chose to pick Labor Day, which screws you over. I'd complain up a storm and state you've already made plans. It isn't his business whether those involve prepaid tickets or anything else.

Would've said no as well, especally since it is a holiday. I almost always say no to certain days off, as it's either my ONLY day off, another closing shift, or I have plans that CAN NOT be broken. That or I just don't feel like coming in again.
Eh, one day I'll have something useful here. Until then, have a cookie or two.
